New look at Margot Robbie as Barbie

Margot Robbie has transformed into the ultimate blonde bombshell on the set of Hollywood movie, Barbie.

Wearing a hot pink, flared-leg catsuit, a matching neck scarf, and with her hair in loose Malibu-esque waves, the Australian star was spotted in costume as the character between takes in Los Angeles.

Robbie, 31, is an executive producer on the Warner Bros-backed production, which is due out next year, directed by Oscar-nominee Greta Gerwig.

Barbie co-stars Ryan Gosling as “Ken”, with a recently-released image of Gosling in character going viral, showing him with a heavy spray-tan and peroxide locks, flashing his abs in an unbuttoned denim vest and personalised “Ken” underwear.

Of Barbie, Robbie previously said: “It comes with a lot of baggage and a lot of nostalgic connections, but with that comes a lot of exciting ways to attack it”.

“People generally hear Barbie and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be’, and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, well, maybe I don’t’.”

Robbie added that Barbie “promotes confidence, curiosity and communication throughout a child’s journey to self-discovery”.

“Over the brand’s almost 60 years, Barbie has empowered kids to imagine themselves in aspirational roles from a princess to president.”

Barbie co-stars America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, Will Ferrell, Insecure’s Issa Rae and Michael Cera, of Arrested Development.

Liu, who plays one of several “Kens”, told Variety he had to wax his entire body for the role, calling it “one of the most painful experiences of my life”.

“I have such a new-found admiration for the incredibly brave women who go through this on a monthly basis,” Liu said, according to Variety.

“I wish I could just show you what we do day-to-day because it’s crazy.”

Barbie is due to be released on July 21, 2023.
