EVEN though fans won’t see Albus Dumbledore’s sexuality addressed in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Jude Law promises it will come into play in later movies in the Harry Potter prequel series.

“That was a question I actually asked Jo [Rowling] and she said, ‘Yes, he’s gay,’” Law, who plays the young Dumbledore in the film, told Entertainment Weekly in a new interview.

“But as with humans, your sexuality doesn’t necessarily define you; he’s multifaceted.”

He continued: “I suppose the question is: How is Dumbledore’s sexuality depicted in this film? What you got to remember (is) this is only the second Fantastic Beasts film in a series and what’s brilliant about Jo’s writing is how she reveals her characters, peels them to the heart over time. You’re just getting to know Albus in this film, and there’s obviously a lot more to come.”

Law also said that fans will learn a little bit about the character’s past in the upcoming movie, but “we’re not going to reveal everything all at once.”

In 2007, Rowling revealed that she always thought the beloved Hogwarts headmaster was gay and had fallen in love with Gellert Grindelwald, whose friendship with Dumbledore ended in a famous duel.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is the second of five movies in the prequel series and will be released in November 2018.
