THE first trailer for Joel Edgerton’s upcoming flick Loving has dropped — and there’s already Oscar talk around the Aussie actor’s performance.

Based on the real life story of interracial couple Richard and Mildred Loving, Edgerton stars opposite Ruth Negga in the leading roles.

Set in 1960s Virginia, the Lovings' marriage caused them to be sentenced to prison.

Fighting for their right to live as a family for nine years, their case eventually made its way to the Supreme Court, where it changed history and resulted in the end of America’s miscegenation laws.

Oscar talk for the film began after it debuted at Cannes earlier this year, with Variety praising Edgerton and Negga’s “powerful, understated performances”. Critic Peter Debruge added Edgerton “disappears into the role of Richard Loving”.

Loving will hit screens in the US later this year.
