Jason Momoa has no qualms showing the world just how ripped he is.

Jason Momoa has graced the cover of the new issue Men’s Health magazine, flexing his considerable muscles in a photo shoot.

And that’s only the tease – the pictures inside feature the Aquaman star sweating and lifting a kettle bell, accentuating his ripped figure.

The actor is currently in New Zealand filming Chief of War, a passion project he is making for Apple TV+. He co-wrote and co-directed the show’s nine episodes, which will tell the story of a Hawaiian warrior chief in the late 1700s.

He told Men’s Health he considered Chief of War his Braveheart or Dances of Wolves.

And while he now has the power and influence to get this project greenlit, it wasn’t always the way.

“Now it’s wonderful, because it wasn’t handed to me,” he said. “It was a very, very, very hard road. For a good 20 years, no one knew who I was. I worked on TV shows and wanted to be on something better.

“I never thought it would be this big. It’s the hardest, most challenging, most demanding thing I’ve ever done. It’s the last big dream I have left. Everything else is just kind of ‘actor for hire’ but this is my homage to my people. We have so many beautiful stories in Hawaii that no one knows about.

“All I care about is just doing right by my people.”

Momoa is still in his purple patch with multiple projects coming out soon. Next week, he’ll be in Fast X, the next instalment in the Fast and the Furious franchise. He’s playing a character out for revenge against the protagonists, who he holds responsible for his father’s death.

And then there’s the long-awaited Aquaman movie. The character has been through many directorial hands and Momoa has been the behind-the-scenes champion for the superhero character.

“Aquaman is probably the hardest character in comic-book history. He’s made fun of and ridiculed but I tried to give it heart and soul, and I’m proud of it in certain ways. Do I feel pressure for [the sequel] to do well? No. All I can do is give it my all.”

The first Aquaman movie cleared more than $US1 billion at the box office. And DC movies is in the middle of a reset with James Gunn taking the reins and launching a new slate of movies and TV shows.

There are questions over what will happen to the legacy characters already in DC projects, including Momoa’s Aquaman.

He star was coy, telling Men’s Health he’s “extremely, extremely excited” about his future in the DC movies, but didn’t give any details away. For his part, DC Studios co-boss Peter Safran said he was excited to keep working with Momoa, whether it was as Aquaman or in another role.
