Blake Lively delighted fans recently with her surprise cameo in husband Ryan Reynolds’ film, Deadpool & Wolverine – and it’s now been revealed he returned the favour with an unexpected role in her romantic drama, It Ends With Us.

The big screen adaptation, based on author Colleen Hoover’s best-selling book, sees Lively, 36, taking the lead as florist and female protagonist, Lily Bloom.

Speaking to news.com.au on the red carpet at the premiere in London’s Leicester Square on Thursday night, she explained her actor husband had also helped craft one of the film’s pivotal scenes, where Lily meets her future husband, Ryle Kincaid, for the first time.

The charming banter between the pair goes a long way in pushing the narrative forward – so did Reynolds take any inspiration from his wife?

“I think it’s important to infuse a bit of yourself into the role … so yeah, [Ryan] came in, and just added a little bit,” Lively explained.

“I understood why [Lily and Ryle] connected on that level … But there needed to be something else, where she could see the red flags, but they still connected.

“It wasn’t just lust, it wasn’t just attraction … there was something where she could give him sh**, he’d give it right back. You’re like, ‘Okay, I see you’. That kept her thinking about it.”

Much like Margot Robbie’s decision to go full Barbie-core for the press tour surrounding Barbie last year, Lively has similarly generated plenty of extra headlines with her show-stopping array of floral outfits as she hits premieres and press events for It Ends With Us worldwide – and Thursday night’s premiere proved no exception.

Lively’s co-star, Isabela Ferrer joined her for the UK event, where she opened up about how she prepared for her pitch-perfect performance as a younger version of the actress’ character, Lily.

According to Ferrer, who makes her feature film debut in It Ends With Us, she spoke to Lively only twice before producing the uncanny likeness during filming.

“It was really just a stroke of luck at how similar we actually are as people,” she told news.com.au.

“And then also on top of that how similar ideas and our core values for Lily, like what they were. It was really just a kindred moment. It was amazing.”

Ferrer went on to add that the moment Lively saw her in full getup as her younger self was “crazy, it was insane.”

“I mean we were both looking at each other. This is so weird. We’re so similar. It was very funny,” she recalled.

It Ends With Us is now in cinemas.
