Meet the new cast members of ‘Love Me’ season 2 on Binge

It’s the show we can’t get enough of and, as season two of Love Me approaches, meet the new cast members we know you’ll love.

Aussie drama 'Love Me' premieres on Binge

Nicole da Silva couldn’t say yes quickly enough when the call came to join the second season of Australia drama Love Me.

“Season one set such a beautiful tone and it’s such a wonderfully-made show,” she says.

“So, when I got the call, I was just like, ‘Yes, sign me up, I’ll do anything and everything, please’.

“Yes, I was thrilled, just thrilled to join the cast.”

The former Wentworth star is one of three new cast members joining the six episode, second series of the Binge Australian original drama. Kim Gyngell’s Richard who briefly appeared in the final episode will now be a regular character, and Eryn Jean Norvill joins as Julia, the ex wife of first season character Peter (Bob Morley).

The series, which was the most nominated drama at last year’s Logie Awards, is an exploration of modern love by different Mathieson family members at three distinct times of life.

Hugo Weaving returns as Glenn, the patriarch experiencing new love in his 60s. Bojana Novakovic, the highly successful, yet complicated Clara.

And William Lodder, is Aaron, facing the complexities of love, and new fatherhood.

As well as Morley, the entire original ensemble is back – Silver Logie award-winning Heather Mitchell as Anita; Celia Pacquola as Sacha; Shalom Brune-Franklin as Ella; and Mitzi Ruhlmann as Jesse.

“Everyone on that show is at the peak of their game, so to come and play was really fantastic,” Da Silva says.

“It’s such a beautiful crew and creative team as well. They all do such a great job of creating this exploration of grief and intimacy.”

Da Silva’s character Amy is starting-out young lawyer Aaron’s boss. She’s slightly adjacent to the law firm, in mergers and acquisitions.

“Amy swims against the grain of everything that world represents which was one of the things that really appealed to me about her,” she says. “She cuts through all the business posturing. And she’s got quite a sense of gallows humour. That’s where her and Aaron are quite good accomplices.”

While there seems to be hints of a complicated on-screen romance between the pair, Da Silva’s lips are firmly sealed.

“I’ve received that many emails saying ‘don’t give anything away about the storyline’,” she laughs.

“So, look, you may – or may not – be right.

“I can say that their friendship does develop over the course of season and they find each other at a very particular time in both their lives.

“Amy’s struggling in an unsatisfying marriage. She’s at the peak of their job and there’s nowhere else to go in that respect. She becomes a great foil to Aaron’s melancholy.”

Da Silva rose to fame on police drama series Rush, and cemented that with long-running roles as Franky Doyle on Wentworth and Charlie Knight on Doctor Doctor. While she hasn’t been seen much on local screens recently, this year her dance card is rather full.

The musical drama film Carmen – she filmed with Paul Mescal and Melissa Barrera in the US a couple of years back – is set to premiere in The States next month. She’s also currently filming One Night with Orange is the New Black’s Yael Stone and Dr Who’s Jodie Whittaker.

“It’s either a feast or a famine as an actor,” Da Silva says, with a laugh.

“It’s really that funny thing that you can go for what feels like eons without you know more than a peep and then all of a sudden everything starts to fall into place again.

“So I feel very, very lucky at the moment.”

She has also just formed her own production company – Four One One – with her former Wentworth co-star and real-life best friend Danielle Cormack. The pair bonded when they auditioned for the Foxtel prison drama 10 years ago – and ended up starring as rival “top dogs” Doyle and Bea Smith. One project – theatre show Who’s Afraid opened at Sydney’s Belvoir St Theatre – last year, with many other ideas bubbling away.

“We wanted to tell stories that are of interest to us and – that we believe are – of interest to the Australian public,” Da Silva says.

“We’ve had our heads down chipping away at it for years and it’s only now that it’s looking like it’s coming to fruition.

“It’s really interesting how it takes years and you chip away at one project, and then that’ll get benched for another one. And then you’re working on that, and then you have to come back to the original one.

“So it’s kind of this thing of we just keep chipping away, chipping away – and, you know, at some point things start to land, which is great.”
