MasterChef lottery takes the cake

FIRST there was the run on Oz Lotto's $90million jackpot, now brace yourself Sydney for the sugar rush of a cake lottery with a MasterChef twist.

FIRST there was the run on Oz Lotto's $90million jackpot, now brace yourself Sydney for the sugar rush of a cake lottery with a MasterChef twist.

In the latest spin-off success story from Channel 10's monster cooking contest, Balmain pastry chef Adriano Zumbo has been inundated with so many orders for his luscious chocolate mousse cake featured on the show that he's proposed an online draw to decide the lucky 100 who will "win the right to buy'' a $90 modified version of the TV favourite.

With more than 100 orders already taken by Zumbo's harried but happy staff, he said that the lottery system seemed the fairest way to meet demand -- with 5 per cent of proceeds going to the Children's Hospital at Westmead.

The charity has already profited from cravings for the program and the cake, with a sample used in a MasterChef cookbook auctioned off last week for up to $125 a slice.

The Coonamble-born patissier has literally been run off his feet meeting MasterChef demand after fans rushed his Darling St, Balmain shop Cafe Chocolat looking for cooking tips, mentorships, even autographs.

"One dad brought his 11-year-old son in just to meet me over the weekend,'' the 27-year-old, who seems permanently on a sugar high, told The Daily Telegraph.
