If there’s one thing the producers of Last King Of The Cross needed from the three actors set to play John Ibrahim, it is the ability to show an enigmatic poker face.

And, judging by this exclusive image of Lincoln Younes, Mason Mansour and Malek Alkoni on the set of the drama, the trio have nailed the brief.

Filming is in early stages and has kicked off around Sydney, with the drama spanning John Ibrahim’s formative years as a young child in Lebanon through to the arrival of the family in Australia and his meteoric rise to “king” of Kings Cross.

The majority of filming is believed to be taking place in Western Sydney and various locations around Kings Cross.

According to a spokesman for the production, one of the sets this week in Chullora had been turned into the devastation of war-torn Tripoli during Lebanon’s bitter civil war, thanks to the magic of the production team.

Former Home And Away heart-throb Younes, who plays the adult version of Ibrahim, said it was an honour to play the character.

The young John is played by 10-year-old budding Australian actor Mason Mansour, while the teenage Ibrahim is played by UK actor, singer and songwriter Malek Alkoni.

“This is a larger than life story and I’m proud to be part of it,” Younes said, after being hand-picked to play the role by Ibrahim himself.

“Kings Cross was Sydney’s most iconic melting pot of entertainment and I can’t wait for it to be brought to life on TV.

“Spanning decades, Last King Of The Cross is intergenerational, and I am so looking forward to bringing the character of John Ibrahim to screen alongside both Mason and Malek.”

Both local and international actors have been cast in the crime drama.

They include Outlaw King’s Callan Mulvey, Alien: Covenant’s Tess Haubrich, Bikie Wars: Brothers In Arms Matt Nable, John Wick’s Ian McShane and Underbelly’s Damian Walshe-Howling.

Inspired by John Ibrahim’s best-selling book of the same name, Last King Of The Cross is the story of two brothers, Sam and John Ibrahim, who organise the street but lose each other in their ascent to power.

The 10-part drama tracks Ibrahim’s rise from a poverty-stricken immigrant with no education, to Australia’s most infamous nightclub mogul.

It has been written by director Kieran Darcy-Smith.

It is being produced by Mark Fennessy, along with Karl Zwicky, and will screen locally on Paramount+, with international distribution set up by Cineflix Rights.
