Marvel not thrilled with Thor director Taika Waititi’s ‘throuple’ antics

Thor director Taika Waititi’s early morning smooch-a-thon might have been the stuff of tabloid dreams — but not everyone was impressed with the public display.

He might be Marvel’s current golden boy but it seems even Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi is not immune to a rap over the knuckles from his powerful superiors.

Confidential hears Waititi — real name Taika Cohen — found himself the subject of something of a dressing down after pictures of the Kiwi film auteur, his current squeeze Rita Ora and his Thor 4 star Tessa Thompson went viral.

The snaps, which were splashed across magazines, newspapers and websites around the world from Sunday onwards, showed the trio engaging in a very early morning cuddlefest following what was widely reported as a “two-day party” at Waititi’s rented Bondi apartment.

As pals nearby poured early-morning glasses of Ruinart Champagne, Waititi, Ora and Thompson appeared in very high spirits as they giggled while getting up close and personal, occasionally stopping their shenanigans for cigarette breaks.

The entertainment world largely reacted with shock, surprise and bemusement to the shock celebrity “throuple”.

“This is the biggest thing to happen to Rita Ora’s career to be honest,” said a Twitter user.

Others seemed shocked to discover what had largely been kept under wraps for almost three years – that Waititi and wife Chelsea Winstanley were no longer together, having separated soon after the completion of Thor: Ragnarok back in 2018.

Soon after Waititi was linked to Polly Stoker, his assistant on Hunt For The Wilderpeople and Thor: Ragnarok.

Meanwhile, some most definitely not impressed by last week’s early-morning antics were Waititi’s bosses at Marvel and parent company Disney — both ostensibly family companies who allegedly made their thoughts on the three-way clear, according to a source.

“Not exactly the image they‘re looking to project in relation to one of their biggest franchises,” said a Love and Thunder set insider.

“Taika has a reputation for being a bit of a party animal but that’s one thing. This was something that crossed a line into territory, into things studios prefer kept behind closed doors.”
