Margot Robbie has been spotted enjoying an Aussie Easter at the beach.
The Oscar-nominated actress, 34, was photographed soaking up the perfect Queensland weather at the weekend, pictured alongside husband Tom Ackerley as the pair hit the surf with friends.
And Robbie, who welcomed her first child in October, paid tribute to her new role as a mum wearing a gold ‘mama’ necklace with her grey bikini.
The Barbie star was seen body surfing at a quiet beach on the Gold Coast alongside a female friend on Saturday, before retreating to a beachside home with a large group of people, including Ackerley.
At one point, the Barbie star could be seen approaching her British producer husband, who lovingly touched her stomach.
Robbie, who welcomed her first child, a boy, in October, has returned to her home country for the first time since becoming a mother, seen touching down at Brisbane airport last week with her bub in tow.
The actress, who is based in Los Angeles, has been relishing some much-earned down time since arriving, having recently wrapped production on the Wuthering Heights adaptation in the UK, which also stars fellow Australian Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff.
The doomed romance, in which Robbie plays Catherine Earnshaw, is being brought to the screen yet again, this time, by Emerald Fennell, the writer-director behind hit films Saltburn and Promising Young Woman.
But Robbie’s casting raised some eyebrows from the outset. And a warning, some story spoilers below.
While Bronte’s novel doesn’t include specific dates and ages, Catherine is barely an adult when she tragically dies during childbirth, and is thought to be no more than 19, some 15 years younger than Robbie.
Photos from the set earlier this year, which showed Robbie acting out her character’s wedding to Edgar Linton (Shazad Latif), further incensed diehard fans of the novel, with many taking issue with Robbie’s age, her costume and styling, and even with her face looking too “modern” for a story set in the late 1700s.
While it’s not uncommon for mature actors to portray younger characters, much of the tragedy of the novel lies in the premature nature of Catherine’s death, as her true love, Heathcliff, lives on tormented to have lost her before they had a chance to be together.
Wuthering Heights is slated to be released February next year.
