Logies 2015: New mum Carrie Bickmore does not care if she wins a gold Logie

WILL it be fourth time lucky for Gold Logie nominee and new mum Carrie Bickmore? She can’t wait for tonight’s Logies but for different reasons.

Best bits of the Logies

NEW Mum Carrie Bickmore has never been one to be carried away by the glamour of showbiz.

But 34-year-old Bickmore also knows it’s part of the game, which is why, just under seven weeks since giving birth to her second child — a gorgeous daughter named Evie — Bickmore will step back into the spotlight tonight on the Logies red carpet.

“I am not sure any new mum would choose their first proper outing since having a baby to be a black-tie event, but I guess it’ll be nice to be out of my trackies for a night,” says the down-to-earth Bickmore.

“I have picked an outfit that will hopefully be comfortable and glamorous.

“I feel sorry for my stylist Nat and designer Paulo Sebastian. I am sure it’s been hard for them to get a dress ready at such short notice, but Paulo is amazing.

“It’s been a long time since I wore high heels. Thongs were the only shoes my swollen feet would fit in towards the end of my pregnancy

‘I’m sure they’ll come off under the table pretty quickly. If only I could wear my ugg boots under my dress.”

It’s the popular The Projectpresenter’s fourth Gold Logie nomination. While fans would argue she’s long overdue to take the prize, Bickmore who won the Logie for most popular new talent in 2010 maintains ‘just being in the mix is lovely’.

“It is just as exciting being in the running for Gold a fourth time as it was the first.”

Of the show which has netted her those four nominations, Bickmore says it feels like home. And she’s developed a fresh appreciation or it while she’s been off on maternity leave.

The Project is very much home for me, and I hope it feels like that for many families every night,” she says.

“I have had the pleasure of watching it while cooking and looking after the kids (Evie is a little sister to Bickmore’s son, Ollie, whose father and Bickmore’s husband, Greg Lange died of brain cancer in 2010) while on maternity leave and it’s such a friendly, comforting presence in your lounge room.

“We have very loyal viewers and I hope they can see that we love what we do each and every night.”

Bickmore announced her pregnancy on air late last year — catching even her co-hosts by surprise.

“We didn’t spend too long dwelling on how to share the news. Chris (Bickmore’s partner Chris Walker) and I just wanted to be in control of how we told everyone.

“I love a bit of spontaneity and I thought it would be a fun way to do it.”

Bickmore says there’s no Logies plan of attack with Evie in the mix tonight.

“Chris and I have no idea how the night will pan out,” she says.

“My mum is looking after Evie, Chris and I will take turns checking in on her.”

Bickmore seems to have been reminded afresh that the trappings of TV are no substitute for a happy and healthy family.

“Thanks for the Gold Logie votes. Told Evie about the nomination and this was the response I got,” was her response to her nomination earlier this year, as she posted a picture of her peacefully-sleeping daughter on Instagram.

She’s enjoying maternity leave hanging at home with her kids.

“Ollie is loving have a sister. He tells her every day she will be his best friend, which is very sweet,” Bickmore says.

“I am loving getting to do school pick up and being around for all the stories at dinner time.”

“Obviously adding a new baby in the mix is challenging, but she is doing great and eating and sleeping most of the time which is all you can hope for.

“I have no idea how mums do it with kids close in age, I take my hat off to them.

“I am back on The Project early June and looking forward to seeing the team again and getting back to doing what I love.

“It’ll be tricky at first co-ordinating everything but we’ll get there.”
