Kylie, Taylor and Pink ... we’re in their age of inspiration

They’re inspiring, they stay out of controversy and drama and they love what they do, which is why the likes of Pink, Kylie Minogue and Taylor Swift are fantastic role models.

I know Kylie has left the country, but I just can’t get her out of my head. Did you know her world Tension tour started in Perth in February, then she blew away audiences in Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, and of course here in Sydney. Then it was onto Asia – Bangkok first, now Tokyo. Then it’s Canada, the US – including two nights at Madison Square Garden – and the UK and Europe. She finishes up in Mexico in August. That’s six months of some 70 two-hour-plus shows, singing and dancing her heart out for hundreds of thousands of screaming fans from every corner of the globe.

Tay Tay did it too. Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour spanned 149 shows in 51 cities across five continents. Then there was Pink’s Summer Carnival tour, which started in June 2023 and ended in England in November last year. Now if you saw any or were lucky enough to see all of these incredible artists, you would know they do ... not ... stop.

The energy, the stamina, the talent they need to do what they do night after night for months and months and months – well it’s extraordinary at any age, let alone Kylie’s 56.

And they really don’t have to, do they? They would all be well off to live a life of luxury 10 times over and never to have to work again, dealing with the fatigue, the jet lag, the

headlines. But they do it. And I choose to believe they do it because they love it. The pure joy you get from live music is an experience unlike many others. And here I am at age 43, marvelling at Kylie on stage and remembering my youth – which doesn’t feel that long ago but I can assure you it was – when we would record our favourite Rage hits on cassette tapes and make up dances to Kylie tunes like The Loco-Motion in the backyard – which incidentally made it to King Charles’ newly released fave playlist this week.

Nowadays it’s my almost teenage daughter doing the same to Taylor Swift, and I love it. I don’t think we could ask for better role models for our kids, actually.

They’ve worked tirelessly for years and continue to do so. They’re inspiring, they stay out of controversy and drama and live lives we can only dream of – and they do it their way.

It’s the opposite of Friends star Matt LeBlanc, who came out this week saying he doesn’t have to work, so why would he? His favourite thing to do? Absolutely nothing.

It’s that million dollar question we all ponder every time we buy a Lotto ticket – if you won, would you turn up to work tomorrow? The trifecta that is Kylie, Taylor and Pink would.

I guess we should all be so lucky.
