Age old advice for dealing with bullies is to ignore them.
And this is exactly how 3AW radio king Neil Mitchell is treating Tim Smith after the drink-driving MP went feral this week on Twitter.
But isn’t Tim Smith always going feral on Twitter? Isn’t that the disgraced Liberal member for Kew’s shtick?
Yes, but this time Smith’s venom was very personal and aimed at Mitchell.
A series of now-deleted-late-night-tweets (read modern day parlance for tired and emotional) appeared to have been written in the wee hours when Smith was believed to be in the UK.
The once high-flying MP had a no-holds barred crack at Mitchell: “Neil Mitchell is the most awful, duplicitous, hateful individual I think I’ve ever met, I did everything he ever wanted, I gave him an exclusive interview when I disgraced myself and he hounded me, like a rabid dog, for weeks thereafter. I hate him.”
Smith also went on about Mitchell’s family. All seriously uncool. But then again we are talking about Tim Smith.
Only days after posting then deleting the tweets the former Shadow Attorney-General was revealed pocketing a $400-a-week parliamentary car allowance.
What a car crash!
This is the same guy who is said to be in a standoff over damages with the owners of the home where he crashed his Jaguar into the fence just outside their child’s bedroom. What a guy.
Eeek, don’t even mention the fallout with Matthew Guy.
Page 13 called for a response from Mitchell, who while understandably not happy, said uncharacteristically he didn’t want to feed it and Smith was “best ignored”.
We are firmly in camp Mitchell on this one. Smith is a liability!
But rather than calling out the rogue Liberal MP, party members are quaking in their boots, afraid he has dirt on them and is ready to fling it about.
The Libs are too frighty to say what they really think. No wonder people say politics is a dirty game.
Once it was Smith who was being bullied by Liberal leaders.
Party elder Jeff Kennett left Smith a voice message back in 2019 (not for the first time) telling him to shed some kegs.
The former two-time Premier said Smith should consider his appearance on television and that “you look like a frog.”
Fat shaming hadn’t become modern day vernacular, but Kennett was never one to beat about the bush.
Stevenson takes a swipe
Poor Neil (two words not often seen together) is having quite a week. First it was Smith getting nasty. Then on Friday it appeared 3AW stablemate Ross Stevenson was having a little, but oh-so-sharp, swipe.
Talking about a US psychologist and his radio show, Because I Said So, Ross said “starts at 8:30.” That’s when Neil hits the airwaves. Ouch.
