IT’S the first look at Jason Donovan in all his fierce Frank-N-Furter glory ahead of the highly anticipated premiere of The Rocky Horror Show tonight and, man, was it worth the wait.
Rocking a red bob, fishnets, suspenders and platforms, the sneak peek of Donovan in a black leather jacket (and matching undies) stole the show, with his rep lippy, blue eyeshadow and string of pearls perfectly completing the famed look.
And while Sydney crowds have been jumping out of their seats to do the Time Warp at three packed-out previews this week, it’s Donovan’s show stopping Don’t Dream It, Be It number that creates perfect synergy for the show as World Pride takes over the Harbour City.
And proud he is.
While this is the first time a UK-based Donovan has performed in Sydney, the long-awaited Rocky Horror revival aptly kicks off global celebrations marking its 50th anniversary, with Donovan at its centre and Myf Warhurst by his side as The Narrator.
The show, seen by over 30 million people in more than 30 countries and translated into 20 languages, already has audiences hyped. The hit music, its flamboyant characters, the freedom and sexual awakening and empowerment means so much to so many.
That could be why The Rocky Horror Show has been continuously on stage somewhere in the world since it first opened in London in 1973.
Sydney, now it’s our turn.
The Rocky Horror Show will play at The Theatre Royal until April 1.
