Jack Black behaved in a very Jack Black manner when approached by a paparazzo on the Gold Coast this week.
The US comedic actor, 55, who is currently in Australia shooting his new movie Anaconda with Paul Rudd, was enjoying a stroll on the beach in Surfers Paradise when he came face-to-face with a Daily Mail contributor.
We aren’t privy to what was said to trigger Black’s ultimately bizarre response, but the short video shows that he begins mock-fighting the unidentified man filming him.
As he throws punches and kicks in the camera’s direction, the paparazzo can be heard saying, “Thanks for stopping for all those people.”
Ignoring him, Black continues his taekwondo-style movements, which included making whooshing sound effects.
“You know I’m recording,” the photographer intervenes, prompting Black to pause in shock before sheepishly running away.
Black’s return marks his first time in Australia since Tenacious D’s explosive unravelling July last year.
The rock duo, including Black’s bandmate Kyle Gass, were forced to cancel the majority of their local tour after Gass’ onstage joke about the attempted assassination of Donald Trump in Pennsylvania that same month.
During the doomed show in Sydney, Black had presented Gass with a birthday cake, and when asked to make a wish, Gass quipped, “Don’t miss Trump next time.”
As backlash swiftly escalated on social media, Black revealed the band was taking a temporary “break” after 30 years.
“We need to take a break. Everybody needs a break sometime,” Black told Variety at the time. “We’ll be back.”
It triggered questions among the duo’s fanbase, with rumours ensuing Black had turned on his longtime friend in a bid to maintain his Hollywood career.
Meanwhile, Black’s co-star Rudd was photographed shooting scenes in the sweltering Queensland heat last Thursday.
Holding a $12 Bunnings umbrella between takes, Rudd could be seen riding an inflatable dinghy in the city’s waterways.
Earlier, the Avengers actor, and People’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2021, was seen leaving the five-star Langham Hotel in Surfers Paradise, where it’s understood he’s staying while in town.
Anaconda is estimated to be providing more than 300 jobs to locals, injecting around $40 million into the economy. Filmmaker Tom Gormican is directing the feature from a script he co-wrote with Kevin Etten.
Plot details for the movie, a reimagining of the 1997 adventure film, have been kept firmly under wraps.
While the original Anaconda was largely panned among critics upon its release, it proved a box office success, grossing $US136.8 million against a $US45 million budget, later going on to achieve the coveted cult status.
Starring Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Owen Wilson and Jon Voight, it followed a documentary film crew in the Amazon rainforest as they hunted down a giant green anaconda.
