International pop and rock stars who have booked tours to Australia in early 2020 have rallied to support the relief efforts with special ticket packages and auctions.
Legendary rocker Billy Idol has also allocated free tickets to his Brisbane and Sydney shows for bushfire volunteers as well as proceeds from her merchandise sales.
Idol launched a series of auctions via eBay for special meet and greet packages for his Australian shows, with bids running over $1100 on Thursday for the Hordern Pavilion show in Sydney. The auctions close on Sunday.
Backstreet Boys joined the fundraising drive last week when they announced VIP meet and greet auctions for the May 23 show at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena and May 27 at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena which sold out within days.
Australian rock royalty Skyhooks also plundered their memorabilia closets for auction items including a framed Gold Record and the pair of orange overalls worn by Graeme “Shirley” Strachan when he performed Party to end all Parties.
The auction runs via Lloyds Online for the next couple of weeks. The website is hosting other music auctions to raise funds for fireys including a guitar once owned by Bee Gees singer and songwriter Barry Gibb.
Several artists have dedicated their talents to writing new songs about how the bushfires have emotionally affected them to help the cause with Delta Goodrem’s Let It Rain soaring to the top of iTunes when she released it earlier this month.
Indie songwriter Gordi also penned her hauntingly beautiful song The Cost to help contribute to the relief effort.
