Human Nature to be inducted into ARIA Hall of Fame

They’re the Aussie “boy band” who made it big in the U.S in the most unexpected of ways. Now Human Nature have come back home for their 30 year anniversary and will celebrate with a very special award.

EXCLUSIVE: Australian band Human Nature will be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.

This year’s awards, November 27, is ironically 30 years to the day since their first public performance as a group.
“It was in Bankstown, Mike (Tierney) was 12, we sang Earth Angel, which we’d learnt at high school,” Andrew Tierney said.

“To get inducted into the Hall of Fame that same exact day 30 years later is a fairy tale.”

Tierney said the award acknowledges more than their recording career — 13 albums (including four Australian No. 1s) 15 Top 20 singles — and 4000 live shows (including 2000 since starting their Las Vegas residency 10 years ago).

“It recognises our whole body of work and as representatives of Australian culture. That’s how we look at it, for everything we’ve been blessed to do.

“We’re not that old, but we’re celebrating our 30th anniversary this year and we started young. Kasey Chambers was inducted last year, so there’s non heritage acts getting into the Hall of Fame which is cool.”

The band are releasing a new compilation, Still Telling Everybody, with a “reimagined” version of 1997 hit Don’t Say Goodbye on November 22.

“The original version feels very locked in that era, we’ve reimagined it in a great way.”

They will also perform at the ARIA Awards, held at the Star Event Centre in Sydney and hosted by Guy Sebastian.

“We want to do what we do best while we’re still at the top of our game, have fun with certain moments of our career, from the boy band days to where we are now.”

Meanwhile Tierney, who released an album with his Christian side-project Finding Faith, has praised Kanye West’s spiritually-driven Jesus is King.

“I put something on the Finding Faith page saying I was inspired by listening to Kanye’s album and someone wrote ‘I think Jesus would walk away from this album’.

“As a Christian I don’t want to judge anybody, you want to lift people up. He’s got a song called Hands On where he’s saying the Christians will be the first ones to bring you down. It’s so true.

“There’s great stuff on the record, I was inspired as a fellow artist and someone who’s stepped out with their faith as well. He seems very genuine and very heartfelt.”

Human Nature will also play Christmas shows at Palms at Crown from December 10.
