Alan Jones’ intention to return to broadcasting appears in significant doubt, after he was replaced on digital news platform ADH-TV by former long-time radio colleague Chris Smith.
“Chris Smith Tonight” made its debut on Monday, with the Australian Digital Holdings (ADH) website claiming Smith would provide “new episodes Monday to Thursday at 8pm.”
That timeslot had been previously held by Jones, who was a founding host on ADH-TV.
Smith was sacked by both Sky News and 2GB in December 2022 over alleged inappropriate behaviour towards women at Sky’s Christmas party.
At the time, both Nine Radio and News Corp, the owner of this masthead, ruled he was in clear breach of his contract.
It was the latest in a number of alcohol-related issues Smith has encountered during his career.
However, when explaining the decision to give Smith another chance, an ADH spokesperson told The Daily Telegraph: “He has turned his life around and stopped drinking. We are very much convinced that he’s changed.”
Meanwhile Jones, 83, has maintained an extremely low profile after being accused of indecently groping and assaulting multiple men. He vehemently denies those allegations.
Earlier this year, Jones released a video to News Corp where he said: “I have every intention of returning to broadcasting” but also had to “take the medical advice.”
Jones declined to comment.
