Harry Styles performs Horses alongside Daryl Braithwaite in Sydney

An Aussie music veteran has thanked British pop star Harry Styles after the pair’s surprise duet to end the singer’s Aussie tour.

Daryl Braithwaite has described his cameo with pop superstar Harry Styles as a “euphoric moment.”

Styles invited the former Sherbet frontman and solo legend to sing his hit The Horses in front of 75,000 fans in Sydney at the weekend.

The two sang a duet of the iconic song which was a hit for Braithwaite in 1990.

Braithwaite said on his Facebook page on Monday: “It was the most euphoric moment for me. Thank you Harry and all of your 75,000 + supporters. Love, Daryl x”

Braithwaite also thanked Styles’ team for being a “calming presence who led me out onto the HUGE stage”.

Harry Styles ended his Australian tour in iconic style – belting out Horses alongside Daryl Braithwaite at his second Sydney show.

The unlikely duo shared the stage on Saturday night and embraced at the end of the Aussie anthem to rapturous applause.

“It’s our last show in Australia, so it only felt right to do something a little bit special,” Styles told fans. “Please welcome, Mr Daryl Braithwaite!”

The British pop star sang the hit, a cover of a 1989 piece by singer Rickie Lee Jones and songwriter Walter Becker, during his first show in Perth.

Just a week ago Braithwaite, 74, was in the audience at Marvel Stadium to watch Styles sing Horses during his second Melbourne show.

He wrote on Facebook after: “What an extraordinary night it was at Harry’s gig.

“I just love the feeling of these massive concerts as they take on a life of (their) own. Harry Styles is so good at what he does and they loved him. I was completely overwhelmed by the night.”

On Saturday night Styles also gave a live performance of his unreleased hit, “Medicine,” which he first debuted live in 2018.

Pop sensation Styles has drawn huge crowds to his Love on Tour shows and was spotted out and about in Melbourne at Collingwood cafe Cibi and around Crown. He was also presented with a North Melbourne jumper by footballer Curtis Taylor.
