Pop star Dua Lipa turned heads in custom Versace, while Doja Cat narrowly avoided a wardrobe malfunction in a plunging gown at the Grammys.
Red carpet style was well and truly back to its best at the scaled back awards, held in Los Angeles amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
There wasn’t an extensive red carpet strut or a huge audience but this was one ceremony that got it right, particularly when it came to star style. There was custom-made Gucci on Harry Styles and Billie Eilish, and Taylor Swift in feminine floral Oscar de la Renta.
Channelling Cher, Grammy-winner Lipa’s glittering Versace chain-metal cut-out dress that took 1500-plus hours to make, Donatella Versace revealed. One of four custom-made Versace outfits Lipa wore to the Grammys, her red carpet gown featured 55,000 crystals.
Wearing Roberto Cavalli, Doja Cat told E! she chose an “out there” gown – with a low-cut deep V-neckline down to her waist – as she had been “very toned down” fashion-wise recently.
“It’s like a motorcycle jacket that’s fitted,” the Say So singer told E! on the Grammys red carpet in Los Angeles.
“I like something that’s out there. I have been very toned down lately,” she added.
“This is like something I have always wanted to do.”
Doja Cat’s jaw-dropping outfit recalled Jennifer Lopez’s infamous V-neck Versace jungle-print dress that she wore to the Grammys in 2000.
The scaled-down Grammys were held in Los Angeles, hosted by Trevor Noah and with a reduced audience capacity due to COVID-19, with the awards delayed from its usual date in January.
Watermelon Sugar singer Styles opened the awards in custom leather Gucci, with Taylor Swift, Lipa, Eilish, Cardi B, Chris Martin, Post Malone, Haim, Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak, Bad Bunny, Roddy Rich and BTS also performing.
And earlier, these stars turned heads as they arrived.
