Filming herself as she came up the escalators and wiggling onto the media wall in a million dollar room with her dangerous curves showcased in a slinky black gown, there was more than touch of Kim Kardashian about Nadia Bartel at a high end fashion gala.
Appearing to take a bite of inspiration from Kardashian’s recent euro-luxe, Italian bombshell, Dolce and Gabbana era, Bartel shimmed into the Myer Precious Metal Ball at Crown on Friday to take her place among the well-heeled, well-funded and well-intended crowd.
Race is on for superstar Kerr
With the Spring Racing Carnival around the corner you can bet the leading raceclubs will be looking at soccer superstar Sam Kerr and wondering if she is interested in a day at the races.
The thought is not as left of field as it sounds. Kerr’s uncle JJ Miller won the 1966 Caulfield and Melbourne Cups on the Bart Cummings’ trained Galilee.
Someone should put in a call.
Brands and raceclubs are always on the hunt for headline making guests at premium racedays. Kerr stands out as the biggest name in sport at the moment.
In fact, all members of the Matildas would be in demand for VIP guest wranglers around Australia.
Cumani scratched from Channel 10’s Cup marquee
The glamorous international face of racing Francesca Cumani will be missing from the Melbourne Cup Carnival this year.
Cumani, who has been part of Channel 10’s coverage of Melbourne Cup Week for several years, will not be travelling from England to Australia for the races as she is pregnant with her third child.
The baby, her second child with triathlete boyfriend Max Johnson, is due in December.
She may however still appear via video from the UK as part of the broadcast.
Cumani won’t be the only thing missing from 10’s Flemington experience this year.
The broadcaster will not have its huge celebrity filled marquee in the Birdcage – in racing parlance the humungous party shack has been scratched.
Ten is the second big name marquee to depart the Birdcage for this year’s carnival following on from Kennedy’s decision to host its VIP guests in a private suite at the track rather than in the corporate enclosure.
“Network 10 have been in discussions with the VRC regarding our hospitality needs for the upcoming 2023 Melbourne Cup Carnival,” a Ten spokesman said.
“Whilst we are still finalising our plans, Network 10 will not be hosting a marquee in the Birdcage this year.
“Instead, 10 will entertain clients and partners at various luxurious trackside locations, in and around the Birdcage enclosure.
“With a multi-studio set-up across Flemington Racecourse, Network 10’s stellar broadcast team are getting ready to saddle up for the 2023 Melbourne Cup Carnival.”
This year is 10’s final year as the host broadcaster of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
“The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) looks forward to unveiling more details about the Melbourne Cup Carnival’s world-famous Birdcage Enclosure soon including the layout and theme for 2023,” Victoria Racing Club CEO Steve Rosich said.
“Paramount has opted to channel their efforts into the Cup Week broadcast in their final year as rights holders, opening up an exclusive space for a new face in the Birdcage which the VRC is excited to announce soon.”
Farnham’s emotional milestone looms
Wednesday marks a significant milestone for Australian singing legend John Farnham, being 12 months since he underwent major surgery to remove a cancerous tumour from his mouth.
It has been a challenging year for the hit making great, one spent in quiet recovery since his marathon surgery on August 23, 2022 with his family never far from his side.
For someone with such a large public presence Farnham lives a remarkably private life. That sanctuary of family and a close knit circle of friends have allowed him to travel his road to recovery without too many intrusions.
One of those friends, Gaynor Wheatley, the wife of Farnham’s late manager Glenn Wheatley is making a move. She had put her Richmond terrace on the market and is relocating to Sydney. The property in Walnut Street, Richmond is expected to fetch around $1.85 million at auction.
Tears flow like the Snowy
A great Australian film has been celebrated in style by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, which received a standing ovation from an audience flooded with tears of emotion.
The MSO, conducted by Vanessa Scammell, performed the score of the Man from Snowy River, written by Bruce Rowland, as the film played at Hamer Hall on Friday evening.
It was one of four stunning sold out performances.
Before the show, the co-stars of the 1982 film, Sigrid Thornton and Tom Burlinson, spoke for 20 minutes of their experiences while shooting the Australian classic movie.
One fun fact is that Denny, the horse ridden by Burlinson in the film, was the first person or animal cast in the movie.
This show is a must see if it adds extra dates.
