TV presenter Erin Molan has split with her longtime fiance and father of her daughter, Sean Ogilvy.
The rugby league commentator and 2Day FM breakfast radio host posted the news on Instagram that she and the police detective had broken up.
“Sean and I have separated,” she wrote. “We are entirely committed to co-parenting our three-year-old daughter, who is the most important person in the world to both of us.
“Any breakdown of the family unit is incredibly difficult and we ask for our privacy at this time – especially given the private approach that we have taken to our relationship. We won’t be making any further comment.”
Rumours had been circulating for more than a year that the engaged couple weren’t headed for the aisle after Molan was spotted without her ring in April last year.
Just weeks early she quipped that it would be nice to be “young and in love again” when discussing a footballer’s engagement.
“We are very happy, I don’t talk about Sean a lot because his job is quite a unique job so we’re quite private when it comes to our relationship,” she told The Daily Telegraph at the time.
“But we are both very good and happy and we’re very much in love with our daughter which is the most important thing.”
The pair were engaged in 2017 and their daughter was born June 2018.
Friends told the Telegraph the split was “very recent” with Molan “heartbroken because she wanted the same childhood for Eliza that she had with her parents, who have been together for 50 years.”
In June, Molan spoke to the Telegraph of her desire to have more children.
“The greatest thing in my life is my little girl,” Molan said of three-year-old daughter, Eliza. “She is the only thing I’ve ever done that is perfect. If she is to be my only child then I have won the lottery a million times over but if I were to be lucky enough to have another baby, I’d be over the moon.”
Molan is an ambassador for Tresillian and has spoken of motherhood being her greatest achievement.
“It’s the most wonderful thing I’ve ever done and to be entirely honest, I actually kind of miss those nights where you are up the whole time feeding and changing and settling,” she said.
“It is the most incredible feeling to know that you are responsible for the life of something so precious and you have the privilege of just loving something so intensely it hurts.”
At the time, Molan spoke of her fear that Eliza was growing up too fast.
“I’m already terrified she’s getting too big too quickly and that she’s becoming less and less reliant on me,” she said.
“Then I hang up the phone to my mum for the third time of the day and realise I’m probably more reliant on my parents as a 37-year-old than I ever was as a child and while it’s probably punishing for them I hope Eliza’s exactly the same with me for the rest of my life.”
While her career is flourishing, it has been an incredibly tough year for Molan on the personal front.
The television and radio personality has been spending as much time as possible with her family with her dad, Liberal Senator Jim Molan, who is fighting prostate cancer.
“He is doing really well,” she said of her 71-year-old dad in June.
“He has had six or seven weeks of treatment now, three different types of treatment and he has just started chemotherapy.
“He is a battler, a warrior, it is certainly not easy for anyone but the way in which he is holding himself and the strength that he has shown, it just blows me away.”
