End of an era: Steve Price’s emotional exit from The Project

In his heartfelt goodbye on The Project, Steve Price reminisced about his years on the show and shared how he’ll tackle the emptiness of Monday nights ahead.

An emotional Steve Price says his Monday nights will feel empty after saying goodbye to The Project.

During his final appearance on the show which wraps on Friday, the former shock jock said he was “sad” after 15 years at the Network Ten desk.

“It’s sad, I don’t know what I’m going to do next Monday night for example,’’ Price said.

“My daughter Kate’s here tonight and she was 11 when I started doing this, so she was still in primary school, just in secondary school. It’s just been a Monday night.

“I have been very privileged to sit here. I’ve always been amazed that an old white guy like me sitting on the end of the bench was ever allowed to stay for more than a week and it’s turned into 15 years.”

Price, sitting alongside Sarah Harris, Waleed Aly and Sam Taunton, was downcast as he continued.

“I love the crew behind the show, they are the best in the world,’’ he said.

“The on air hosts have been fantastic, you’ve all been very generous and kind to me. Go all the way back to prickly Charlie (Pickering) and Carrie Bickmore of course, and Waleed’s been with me a long time, so have you Sarah.

“Sam, we’ve had, Hughesy, Helliar, Little — you’re the man.”

The Project has been axed after starting in 2009 and more than 4,500 episodes.

Original stars Carrie Bickmore, Charlie Pickering and Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes will be joining the panel when the final episode airs on Friday with a big wrap party scheduled to take place after the program with other former stars of the program.
