From Jennifer Aniston’s three outfit changes to Zendaya’s racy sparkly bra, the Emmy Awards proved that Hollywood awards still have fashion appeal even if they are done virtually.
The TV awards looked markedly different this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, forcing the entire show to be carried out via Zoom, except for host Jimmy Kimmel, who broadcast live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
With no red carpet or after parties, Hollywood’s A-listers still showed off head-turning looks, even if they didn’t leave the house, with a dress code that Emmys organisers described as “come as you are but make an effort”.
Emmy winner Zendaya, of HBO drama Euphoria, wore one of the outfits of the night, a dazzling sparkly Armani silver bra with a halter-neck and spotty ball skirt, with her hair in a messy updo.
She shared her first look for the faux red carpet on Instagram. “And so it begins … Look 1,” the star captioned a video of her twirling in a Christopher John Rogers balloon-skirt gown with Bulgari jewels.
Jennifer Aniston had three outfit changes, sharing her pre-Emmys routine from home, sporting a dressing gown and a facial mask.
“Emmys prep … in my other mask. Congratulations to the nominees and all of the amazing performances we’ve seen this year,” Aniston wrote.
The former Friends star made an in-person appearance at the awards ceremony, wearing a sleek black gown to present the first award of the night with Kimmel, who was well and truly at an appropriate social distance.
The pair “sterilised” the winner’s envelope by setting it on fire, before presenting the Best Comedy Actress Emmy to Schitt’s Creek star Catherine O’Hara.
Aniston later made a third appearance for the night, from home, this time wearing a pink patterned silk robe and joined by her Friends co-stars Courteney Cox and Lisa Kurdrow, in a mini-Friends reunion.

“No bra? No heels? NO PROBLEM. Wearing PJ’s to the 72nd Emmy Awards (from my house) is my kind of vibes. Excited to see if we win any of the 7 awards we have been nominated for!!!! I still did my make up and wore a sequin dressing gown, because … It’s what Tahani would have wanted. And this is her day, not mine,” Jamil captioned an Instagram post of her outfit.
