For all of DJ Tigerlily’s hundreds of thousands of fans dying to know the name of her “mini disco” — the wait is over.
Baby Lando, now six weeks old, spent seven days without a name while new mum (real name Dara Hayes) and dad Scott Lawson decided between their top three.
Sebastian was too traditional, Dustin a tad American, while Lando was inspired by racing car driver Lando Norris.
“My husband was literally watching the F1 with him on his phone in hospital — Scott’s a massive fan and we wanted a name that was a little bit different,” DJ Tigerlily told The Saturday Telegraph.
And she has worked out how to soothe the new bub.
“I just put my music on,” she laughed. “So he’ll be having a tantrum, you know how they cry and turn themselves red – and then I’ll play some Eric Prydz or Sandstorm or Dead Mouse or something that’s really got quite a strong baseline.
“He’ll stop crying and he’ll look around and he’ll become calm, and often he’ll go to sleep, which is hilarious because my music is intense — it’s definitely not sleep music.”
Saturday will be DJ Tigerlily’s first time back on the decks since having Lando — she will play at halftime at the NRL showdown between the Eels and Manly at Parramatta.
Saying yes to working tonight was a hard call for the new mum.
“I’m still breastfeeding so I need him to be close, and we bought him a little pair of ear muffs so he can come out and have a listen,” she said.
“Being very upfront with you, why I said yes to this gig, and why I felt like I could say yes, was because physically, I’ve been very blessed in that my body has somewhat — and I hate this phrase — but it’s somewhat bounced back,” she said.
“I think if I wasn’t feeling physically good, I don’t think I could have said yes because the job is very physical … you do have to feel confident, and you do have to feel proud of your image and sexy and feminine and powerful.
“I did a post on Instagram, pre-Lando being born, and I said something along the lines of: ‘This is me making public promise to myself to try not to lose myself, because I know how important music is and DJ-ing is to me’.
“It brings me so much happiness, and I wanted to promise myself that I was I was going to make that a priority.
“But apparently I was stirring the pot big time because I got so lots of mums being like: ‘F--k yeah, go girl’ and then a heap of people were like: ‘You have no idea what you’re talking about, everything changes, you’re delusional’.
“It was really quite confronting because it made me think: ‘God, is it that bad that I won't feel like myself again’?
“But we’ve had a really positive experience and I’m really excited for (Saturday night) because for me it represents what that Instagram post was saying — you can be a mum, you can still be doing what you love and working and showing up for yourself.
“And in doing that, you’re showing your baby that you are a superwoman.”
