Deadpool & Wolverine trailer drops with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman continuing their rivalry

Famed frenemies Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds have stunned with a wild new trailer for their new Marvel blockbuster.

Hugh Jackman has jumped online to promote his latest Wolverine adventure with Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds and his claws are out.

On Instagram the Aussie A-list actor posted an ad for new blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine and wrote “Objects in the mirror are annoying”, referring to the reflection of Deadpool’s mask in Wolverine’s famous retractable metal claws.

And on X/Twitter, Jackman posted a hilarious clip, which is from the new teaser trailer, featuring Wolverine and Deadpool meeting at a bar and trading barbs. “Hey peanut,” says Deadpool. “I need you to come with me right now.”

“Look, lady,” says Wolverine. “I’m not interested.”

Jackman posted sarcastically on his X account, referring to Reynolds, “Good to see Dopey still getting work.”

Not to be outdone, Ryan Reynolds posted to X at the same time: “Found the guy who killed Bambi’s mom.”

And he also uploaded his own promotional character poster featuring Wolverine’s eyes reflected in the blades of Deadpool’s crossed katanas with a cheeky “Hang it in the Louvre” comment, suggesting his poster, not Wolverine’s, is the masterpiece.

The two stars’ faux Hollywood feud started on the set of 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine and it was initiated, Jackman revealed to The Daily Beast in 2020, when the Wolverine actor advised Reynolds to be good to his then-wife Scarlett Johansson. It continued with both men receiving People Magazine’s Sexist Man Alive award and since then, the two have engaged in back-and-forth pranking over social media, good naturedly trying to undermine each other’s announcements and achievements. When Jackman received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Reynolds encouraged people to urinate on that part of the footpath.

And in an appearance on Australia’s Today Show Reynolds said of Jackman, “He’s just an evil person. I mean, you guys have all been duped. You think he’s this benevolent ambassador to your country. People don’t realise he’s from Winnipeg, Canada. … Hugh Jackman’s a fraud!”

But during the pandemic Reynolds and Jackman used their rivalry to raise money for their charities, Laughing Man Foundation and SickKids Foundation.

The feud soon resumed when Reynolds posted an espresso martini recipe plugging his Aviation gin brand, but told folks not to use Jackman’s Laughing Man coffee in the recipe.

The frenemies have continued to troll each other, including promoting their movies and spending time watching Reynolds’ football team.

It comes as Marvel Studios dropped the new trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine on Monday, local time, revealing Jackman’s return as Wolverine since 2017’s Logan, in which his character died.

For years, Jackman said he didn’t expect to play Wolverine again due to the ending but fans were overjoyed when Reynolds announced Jackman’s return in 2022, followed up by a joke video attempting to explain how Wolverine could return having been killed off.

This new storyline involves the superhero reluctantly teaming up with Reynolds’ Deadpool, who forcefully recruits Wolverine as he is drowning his sorrows in a bar.

In the trailer, Jackman’s Wolverine is also seen wearing a yellow superhero suit, the first time the X-Men comic book iconography has been used in a live-action film, suggesting there will be other connections within the Marvel Universe as well as lots of jokes, expletives, fights, and action.
