They were the surprise guests of honour who brought some serious Hollywood clout to Sydney society’s night of nights.
But attendees at Thursday night’s annual Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation Gold Dinner fundraiser say it was a short-lived appearance by Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, who, along with his familial entourage, skipped the after-party and left the event midway though the charity pledges.
At least one guest claims the crowd was “surprised” by the abrupt departure of Hemsworth, who attended the gala with his stunning wife Elsa Pataky, brother Liam and his model girlfriend Gabriella Brooks, Luciana Barroso — the wife of actor Matt Damon — and Nine presenter Lauren Phillips.
“The charity auction was winding up and the pledges were just beginning and the whole Hemsworth table got up and walked out,” a dinner-goer said.
“Everyone noticed.”
However event committee member Emma Cooper tells Confidential reports the Hemsworth entourage bailed early were “incorrect” and the group only left after fundraising formalities were complete.
“They stayed until the end of the pledges and did an amazing job of making the night a huge success,” she said.
“There was no obligation for them to stay for the after-party.
“I was the one who actually led them out of the room as the auctioneer was finishing up.”
Hemsworth did, however, leave behind a handy tip — two tickets to the upcoming Sydney premiere of Thor Love and Thunder, which were snapped up by a mystery buyer for $60,000.
The donation helped the foundation raise a record $4.4 million — smashing the event’s previous record of $3.3 million.
