Chris Hemsworth and Anya Taylor Joy have arrived in Sydney to promote their new movie Mad Max.

Director George Miller’s follow-up to the 2015 box office hit Fury Road has its Australian premiere on Thursday.

The pair were spotted at Circular Quay doing their best to avoid the rain puddles after some less than favourable weather.

Unfortunately, the Marvel star led Taylor-Joy right through a large puddle, soaking the train of her gown in the process.

Furiosa follows Taylor-Joy’s character as she seeks revenge for trauma inflicted by the cruel Dementus, played brilliantly against type by Hemsworth, who has spent years playing the superhero, Thor.

Hemsworth looks virtually unrecognisable in the movie’s trailer, with long hair, a beard and what appear to be facial prosthetics.

Director Miller recently joked at the Warner Bros. 2024 CinemaCon in Las Vegas that Hemsworth and Taylor-Joy were so good in their roles he had trouble recognising them out of costume.

“They’re complete frauds to me after I spent a year in the cutting room,” he said.

The acclaimed director added that both actors had the perfect combination of charisma and endurance for the tough roles.

“Anya is resolute, disciplined and very smart,” he added.

The highly anticipated film acts as a prequel of sorts to Fury Road, which earned six Oscars, exploring the origins of the Furiosa character.

Hemsworth shot the film at home in Australia after Miller was able to make his movie in the outback of regional New South Wales.

The first film in the series had been planned for a NSW shoot too, however, after unseasonable rainfall and a wildflower bloom, he was forced him to shoot in the Namibian desert.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, the fifth movie in the long-running series, will be released in cinemas on Thursday, May 23.
