Channel 7 news reporter Melina Sarris has opened up about her baby joy and hell after four years of heartbreaking miscarriages.
Sarris lost three pregnancies in the space of 12 months after giving birth to her son Romeo three years ago.
She also had a miscarriage before Romeo.
Now, expecting her second child at 23 weeks, she is confident of carrying to term and wants to reveal her experience in the hope of helping other women.
“My specialist said to stop trying, you’re done,’’ she said.
“I fell pregnant again when Romeo was 14 months and I’ve lost one at 11 weeks, 20 weeks and just over six weeks in the space of a year.
“We said let’s give it one last shot and we went through IVF and were lucky it happened first go.”
Sarris said every miscarriage was a different problem, even suffering one while at work and then having a seizure during surgery.
“I’ve been pregnant so many times, I’m so sick of telling people and retracting it,’’ she said.
“We have the most supportive friends and family and it felt like none of my girlfriends had gone through this. So I was like why me, we just want to give our baby a sibling.
“The thing that bothered me was people saying ‘oh you haven’t had a second yet, why not’.”
Sarris is booked in for a C-section this time and knows she is lucky.
“We are blessed to have one healthy child and I am so fortunate now,’’ she said.
“I’m starting to get confident because I can feel it kicking. I’m due end of May and I’m done putting my life on hold so this will be it.”
