Hit singer Sam Smith was spotted walking along Sydney’s streets hours before New Year’s Eve celebrations kicked off.
The 30-year-old British sensation was photographed strolling on Saturday along Oxford Street, an area best known for its popular LGBTQI+ night clubs.
Sam, who uses they/them pronouns, wore a casual combo of denim shorts and a yellow T-shirt, which had been tied into a knot, as they explored the Sydney suburb of Darlinghurst.
The Unholy singer also wore a green handbag and nursed a coffee, and walked alongside friends down the busy street.
Sam has arrived in Australia ahead of a gig they’re performing in South Australia this month.
The concert, to be held at the d’Arenberg Cube later in January, is the only show they’ll put on while in Australia.
On Tuesday, Sam posted pictures of themself wearing a tiny swimming costume on a yacht.
They took to Instagram to share the holiday photos, telling followers to “always wear sun cream” as they flaunted a leopard print swimsuit.
“Keep being your unapologetic, incredible self. We love you Sam,” one fan wrote beneath the new images.
“My body looks a bit like yours. Maybe yours is better. Taking such body pictures ‘confidently’ is goals tbh as I’m still learning to love my body. Love ya sis,” another said.
In early December, fans went in to bat for the singer after they were attacked online for wearing a glittery silver jumpsuit while performing their hit song Unholy alongside Kim Petras at the Jingle Ball event in London.
Smith took to the stage wearing a silver sequined Valentino jumpsuit with black patent boots, silver waist belt and drop earrings. But the look prompted cruel comments about the singer’s weight, sending fans into defence mode as they called out the blatant body-shaming.
I see a lot of people trashing Sam Smith for wearing this fab jumpsuit but praising Harry Styles for wearing basically the same thing. Gross. pic.twitter.com/KjOYxrDQOz

Sam strutting their stuff down Sydney’s streets comes after the celebrity revealed they had been struggling with their body image for some time.
In 2019, the singer admitted they felt self conscious if they were photographed without a T-shirt and would often starve themself in anticipation of a photography session.
“In the past if I have ever done a photo shoot with so much as a T-shirt on, I have starved myself for weeks in advance and then picked and prodded at every picture and then normally taken the picture down,” the non-binary singer wrote.
However, they decided to “reclaim” their body, saying it was time to “stop trying to change this chest and these hips and these curves that my mum and dad made and love so unconditionally”.
