Russell Crowe has revealed an elaborate prank he played on an American director 18 years ago after a video of blood shooting from his shoulder emerged on social media.
A woman named Rowan MacKenzie, who works in the film industry, posted “never seen before footage” of Crowe from 2004 filming a birthday video for Cinderella Man director Ron Howard.
In the video, Crowe assures Howard he is fine after surgery.
“There isn’t any problem really. I’ve got this full range of motion and you know according to the surgeon, there is nothing at all, no problems at all that can’t really be sorted out within a very short time,” he said as blood started spurting from one shoulder.
While training for Cinderella Man I experienced a subluxation of my left shoulder which required surgery. I knew that Ron Howard and the studio were concerned so I thought Iâd send a video to relax them.

“I’ll just keep going with the physio,” Crowe continued, wincing. “I’ll just put the effort into it and sooner or later we’ll just be able to do everything. So I’ll see you, ah very shortly, ah … as soon as the bleeding stops.”
A pained Crowe stared at the camera until the wall behind him was covered in blood.
Crowe retweeted the video explaining he had a subluxation of his left shoulder during training for the 2005 film Cinderella Man that required surgery.
“I knew that Ron Howard and the studio were concerned so I thought I’d send a video to relax them,” he wrote. “21 days after surgery I was back in the ring.”
In the film, Crowe played James J. Braddock, a former boxer, who decides to get back into the ring once again when the Great Depression takes a toll on his family.
Special effects veteran Warren Beaton also shared the video, saying it was “the BEST fun Special Effects morning EVER!”.
