Prince Harry and wife Meghan’s new son may get a more traditional than modern name, royal experts said last night.
Bookmakers overwhelmingly believed the child would be a girl, but late money for a boy dragged that back to even money.
Arthur, if the child was a boy, and Elizabeth in honour of the Queen, had been at 8/1.
Royal Expert Richard Fitzwilliams said his money would be on the child being bestowed a traditional name, either Philip or James.
Editor of Majesty magazine Joe Little said it was unclear whether Baby Sussex would be given a traditional name but their distance from the throne meant Harry and Meghan had a little more leeway.
“When William’s children were born and names were allocated, they had to go more formal because George is in line to the throne,” he said.
“With Harry and Meghan’s children they don’t need necessarily to go down the traditional route.
“Will it be something that is quite unusual in the British Royal Family? Maybe, maybe not.
“There’s been talk of Alfred and Albert.”
The names of Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge’s children all pay homage to royal family members with eldest son Prince George, 5, named after the Queen’s father King George VI.

One year-old Prince Louis shares two names with his older brother and middle name with his grandfather, and was also named for Lord Louis Mountbatten, beloved “Uncle Dickie’’ of Prince Charles, who was assassinated by the Provisional IRA in 1979.
Four-year-old Princess Charlotte was bestowed the female version of her grandfather, Prince Charles’ name.
Her full name, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, references two of the most important women in Prince Harry’s and Prince William’s lives.
It’s not clear when the name will be announced or when the world will see a picture of the child but Prince George’s and Princess Charlotte’s names were announced within 48 hours and Prince Louis’ after four days.
The wait hopefully won’t be as long Prince William’s name announcement, which happened a week after his birth, or Prince Charles’, whose name wasn’t revealed to the public for a month.
