Queen Elizabeth pulls out of Highland Games

The Queen has pulled out of a major event as Prince Charles makes ‘daily visits’, sparking increasingly more dire concerns for her health.

The Queen has pulled out of attending the Highland Games, raising more fears for her health.

Royal sources said Her Majesty would not go to this year’s event to help with her “comfort”, according to Palace sources.

The 96-year-old usually attends the games with the Prime Minister, which is understood to be one her favourite engagements in her calendar.

She will be replaced at the event by Prince Charles, who has been making daily visits to see the Queen in a “highly unusual” increase of in-person meetings between the pair.

Royal aides were understood to have been concerned about how to get the Queen to the Braemar event, in Scotland’s Highlands, as well as the length of time she would need to remain seated while in attendance.

She has been staying nearby at Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, where Prince Charles has reportedly been making daily visits since mobility issues forced her to stop travelling.

Royal experts say it’s an indication the Heir to the throne is increasingly concerned about his mother’s deteriorating condition.

“It’s highly unusual for Prince Charles to make these kinds of impromptu visits to see his mother,” Ingrid Seward, of Majesty Magazine, told The Mirror.

“But Charles is a very thoughtful person - and who else can she rely on now Prince Philip has gone? Everyone thinks they normally see each other all the time, but they don’t.”

The Highland Games, which are set to get underway on Saturday, features people competing in traditional Scottish sports such as tug-of-war and caber-tossing.

This will be the first time Her Majesty has not attended the event in her 70-year reign. The tradition dates back as far as Queen Victoria, who first attended the Highland Games in 1848.

It comes days after it was revealed the Queen would not be able to travel to London to meet the UK’s new Prime Minister next week.

Boris Johnson and his successor, either Liz Truss or Rishi Sunak, will instead travel to Balmoral Castle to meet her.

The move is another break from tradition. The monarch has greeted the outgoing and incoming UK prime minister at Buckingham Palace for more than a century. The last time a sovereign received a new prime minister outside of Buckingham Palace was 1908.

It has been more than a month since the Queen was last seen in public.

It was reported last week that Prince Charles has been making “regular, daily” visits to see his mother, which is seen as unusual.
