Princess Diana confronted Camilla during a family party after she was caught with Charles

A confrontation between Princess Diana and Camilla, after she was found alone with Charles at a party, has been revealed by the late royal’s former bodyguard.

Princess Diana confronted Camilla and gave her a “12-word warning” after finding her with Prince Charles when they snuck off together at a party, a former bodyguard has revealed.

The royal icon’s former protection officer, Ken Wharfe, described in detail just how the events of the fateful night unfolded.

He said the late princess marched up to her husband and his lover and told them she was aware of their affair, warning them “do not treat me like an idiot, I know what’s going on.”

The tense interaction allegedly occurred after Diana became separated from the Prince of Wales at a house party hosted by Camilla‘s younger sister, Annabel Elliot Shand.

“Diana didn’t have any particular friendships at that party but when we arrived there, it was almost like freeze-framing a scene in a movie because there was this surprise that Diana had even arrived,” Mr Wharfe told ITV’s Lorraine program.

“But then soon after within the hour, I heard my name being called, I was in the kitchen somewhere. And I went out and there was Diana, who said ‘you’ve got to come with me, I can’t find my husband or Camilla’.

“Now, I couldn’t say no, clearly this woman was in some distress, and eventually we found the prince and Camilla sat on a sofa in the basement of this property just talking.”

But Mr Wharfe, who is set to release a new book on Lady Diana’s life called Remembering the Princess, said the incident was “an indicator that the end was nigh” for Charles and Diana.

“With a great deal of confidence, Diana just went up to both of them and said to Camilla ‘please don’t treat me like an idiot, I know what’s going on’.”

But rather than confirm Diana’s fears, Camilla appeared to change the subject entirely.

“Camilla sort of said something, to which still to this day I have never really understood what she meant by ‘well you know, you have two wonderful boys’,” Mr Wharfe said.

Ken Wharfe is set to release a new book on Princess Diana.

The affair eventually led to Diana saying in her bombshell Panorama interview: “Well, there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.”

The book will mark the 25th anniversary of her tragic death, when she died aged just 36 years old.

After Charles and Diana split in 1992, they eventually divorced four years later in 1996.

Charles then married Camilla in 2005 and she became the Duchess of Cornwall.

When the Prince of Wales takes the throne, his wife will be known as Queen Consort.
