Princess Beatrice has revealed she is expecting her first child, and the timing of the news suggests the royal family’s rift is still growing.

Princess Beatrice’s happy pregnancy news has caused a stir among the Windsors due to a major date clash.
The news that Princess Beatrice, who is the eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, is expecting her first child with husband Edoardo Mappeli Mozzi broke on Wednesday, the same day as Prince Harry and Meghan’s third wedding anniversary.
“It is a strange coincidence,” Prince Harry’s biographer, Angela Levin, said.
“Beatrice is a lovely person and her and Edo are entitled to announce their happy news to the world whenever they choose,” Levin said.
The news was released via an announcement from Buckingham Palace which described the Queen as “delighted”.
“Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in autumn of this year,” the statement said.
“The Queen has been informed and both families are delighted with the news.”
Meghan and Harry unofficially announced their pregnancy with Archie at the 2019 wedding of Beatrice’s younger sister, Princess Eugenie, where Meghan appeared wearing a loose fitting navy coat that fuelled rumours she was expecting. Just weeks later the pair confirmed the happy news while undertaking their first official royal tour in Australia.
At the time, Eugenie was reportedly upset that her cousin and new wife failed to conceal their happy news on her big day.
“Eugenie was upset that Harry and Meghan announced their baby news at her wedding,” Levin said, adding, “If Harry and Meghan don’t like it, then tough.”
Princess Beatrice’s baby, which is said to in the UK’s summer, will be the Queen’s 12th great grandchild, and fourth great-grandchild born this year following the arrival of August, Zara and Mike Tindall’s son Lucas, and Meghan and Harry’s daughter, who is due to be born within weeks.
The happy news comes after a horror few months for the royal family, with the death of Prince Philip and the fallout from Prince Harry’s latest Oprah Winfrey revelations in which he slammed his father Prince Charles over his parenting skills.
Princess Beatrice, 32, married Italian property tycoon Edo Mapelli Mozzi in July 2020 in an intimate ceremony under COVID-19 restrictions.
The Queen and her late husband Prince Philip attended the wedding at All Saints Chapel, Windsor Great Park.
Beatrice’s husband has a child Christopher, known as Wolfie, from a previous relationship.
