Prince Harry is ready to admit his mistakes and that his “temper” may have played a role in his feud with Prince William - but his brother isn’t prepared to do the same.
Robert Lacey, the well connected author of Battle of Brothers, believed Harry was prepared to make the concession in a bid to repair his relationships with his family.
But William and wife Kate may not be as willing - and they have been pictured with son George cheering on England at Wembley Stadium as the lastest claims on the rift emerged.
“On one side we’ve got William who doesn’t seem prepared to concede anything and on the other side friends have told me that Harry wouldn’t mind reconciling and then it’s Meghan who is sticking to her guns on this issue,” Lacey told Newsweek.
“It should surely be possible for both sides to say the past is in the past. It’s very regrettable that Meghan doesn’t withdraw just a little.
“Why can’t she say it was the pressure? “I was getting used to this incredibly complicated system, I was just pregnant, I couldn’t sleep” …”Perhaps in retrospect I went over the top about it”.”
The brothers will reunite on Thursday when they unveil the memorial statue of their late mother together, on what would have been Diana’s 60th birthday.
Harry’s visit home is the first since he blasted the royal family for his upbringing on his show promoting mental health and in podcasts, accusing them of “neglect” and claiming he quit the UK for the US to “break the cycle of pain”.
The speculation over the state of the relationship between the brothers comes as William, Kate and George joined David Beckham, Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding and other A-listers at Wembley Stadium for England’s victory over Germany at the Euros.
Prince William, who is also President of The Football Association, was seen pumping his fists at Wembley Stadium for England’s fourth match of the Euros.
And while there was no England shirt for seven-year-old Prince George - who instead wore a smart navy blue jacket, shirt and official FA tie - the future king clapped his hands as England thumped to victory.
Prince George looked nervous as he sat between his parents for the national anthem but quickly got into the spirit of the game, while William punched the air as the final whistle blew to see England beat their old rivals.
The match was thought to be Kate’s first time watching an England men’s football international in person.
The duchess could be seen leaning in to speak to her son as they concentrated on the action.
The family were seen laughing and talking excitedly as they waited for the game to kick off.
Curious George beamed at his dad during the game as the royal pair enjoyed the match, reported The Sun.
NEW ROLE FOR KATE
Kate Middleton has been given a new role within the royal family, it can be revealed.
During a visit a shipyard near Glasgow in Scotland, Prince William announced that his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, will be the sponsor of a new naval battleship, HMS Glasgow, which is being built at the yard.
“My family’s affection for the Royal navy is well known, and as I saw the work taking place here today, I was thinking of my grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh,” Prince William said.
“He would have been fascinated and very excited to see such advances in skills and technology being put into practice.”
“Today, I’m very pleased to announce that my family’s connection with Type 26 will endure for many years to come. Her Majesty the Queen has approved the appointment of my wife Catherine as Sponsor of the superb ship we see taking shape outside — HMS Glasgow. I know that Catherine will be delighted to join you here in Glasgow for the naming ceremony in due course.”
The Royal Family said in a statement on Twitter that the “role will see The Duchess supporting the crew through milestones, events and deployments over the vessel’s coming years of service”.
It means Kate, 39, will have a longstanding “strong and enduring personal connection to the vessel and her crew, often supporting milestones, events and deployments,” her office at Kensington Palace explained.

The announcement comes just days out from Prince William’s highly anticipated reunion with his brother, Prince Harry in honour of their late mother Princess Diana.
The Duke of Sussex appeared for the first time since he landed in the UK in a new video message where he spoke about The Diana Award, which honours young people who work to improve the lives of others.
Prince Harry paid tribute to those living compassionately, and referred to William by saying: “Later this week my brother and I are recognising what would have been our mum’s 60th birthday, and she will be so proud of you all for living an authentic life, with purpose and with compassion for others.”
Prince Harry also mentioned his wife, Meghan Markle, who stayed behind in the US with their son Archie and daughter Lilibet Diana while he attends the unveiling of Diana’s statue at Kensington Palace on Thursday.
“Our mum believed that young people have the power to change the world,” he said.
“She believed in your strength, because she saw it day and day out. And in the faces of young people exactly like you she witnessed a boundless enthusiasm and passion.
“And I too see those same values shine through.
“As it has done for 21 years now, the Diana Award carries her legacy forward by putting young people at the centre of our future. This has never been more important.
“And Meg and I fundamentally believe that our world is at the cusp of change, real change for the good of all.
“But the question before us is what that change will look like.”
The Diana Award is for young people aged between nine and 25, and acknowledges their social action or humanitarian work.
It unclear where the video was filmed as Prince Harry has been self-isolating at Frogmore Cottage since landing at Heathrow last week.
The two brothers will stand side-by-side for the service to mark Diana’s 60th birthday.
It comes as tension between the royal brothers continues after Prince Harry and Meghan dropped bombshell claims about the Royal Family in a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Prince William’s royal duties have also continued with the Queen, who is on her first royal tour in Scotland since the death of her late husband Prince Philip.
The Queen was introduced to Scotland’s other national drink Irn Bru as she began her four-day visit.
She and Prince William toured AG Barr’s factory in Cumbernauld, where the iconic soft drink is made.
The Queen, who has continued with her duties as head of state despite grieving for her late husband, will stay at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, her official residence in Scotland.
She and Prince Philip used to go to there to get away from public life in London.
Buckingham Palace said in a statement: “Her Majesty is connected to Scotland by ancestry and deeply held affection. As well as spending family Summers at Balmoral Castle, The Queen has visited almost every area of Scotland from the Outer Hebrides to Dumfries, meeting Scots from all walks of life.”
