Prince Harry found out about Prince Philip’s death from police

The Duke of Sussex reportedly found out about his grandfather’s death after police turned up to his LA mansion after missed calls.

Queen devastated by Prince Harry’s ‘very personal’ attacks

Prince Harry found out about the death of his grandfather Prince Philip after police came knocking at his door, it’s reported.

US embassy officials were unable to reach the Duke of Sussex by phone so they visited his home in LA after 3am to break the bad news, according to TMZ.

A representative called the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department and asked if an officer could go to the royals Montecito mansion to let him know they were urgently trying to reach him.

Sources told the MailOnline it’s more likely the UK Embassy in Washington was trying to contact Prince Harry, on behalf of Britain’s Foreign Office.

A police officer made contact with someone at the gates of the mansion who informed Prince Harry he needed to call the Embassy.

The report comes as a royal insider claims Prince Harry was taken care of in his grandfather’s will.

The Duke of Edinburgh, who died of natural causes last month aged 99, left behind wealth estimated at $55 million – with most of it expected to go to the Queen.

But a source close to Buckingham Palace claimed the duke also left gifts to his closest aides.

“Unlike some other royals, Prince Philip will be generous to the three men who looked after him,” the insider told The Sun.

“These include his private secretary Brigadier Archie Miller Bakewell, his page William Henderson and valet Stephen Niedojadlo.”

Mr Bakewell often filled in for Philip at engagements, while Henderson and Niedojadio were by his side at Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate. Henderson was reportedly with Philip during his last two days at Windsor.

Philip also signed photos of himself after leaving hospital, according to the source, that were placed in frames with his cypher on them as gifts to the people that looked after him.

According to the insider, Philip’s grandchildren including Prince Harry will have been “sorted out quite a while ago”.

“Philip was not the sort of character to punish a grandson (Harry) for misbehaving. He was a very fair, even-handed and lovely man. Never held a grudge.”

The source added Philip’s children – Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Prince Andrew – can “take what they want” from his collection of 13,000 books in his library at Buckingham Palace.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman told The Sun: “This is a personal matter for the family and as such arrangements are private.”
