Piers Morgan has mocked Prince Harry and Meghan’s decision to name their daughter Lilibet in honour of the Queen after the couple spent weeks “trashing the royal family and the monarchy”.

“I think it’s quite ironic isn’t it?” he said when asked by Today show host Karl Stefanovic what he thought of the naming of Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

Lilibet was the Queen’s childhood nickname. Morgan said he wondered if the naming of the child was the Sussexes way of trying to heal their rift with the royal family.

“‘You have this couple who have been trashing the royal family and the monarchy for the last few weeks and they have named the baby after the Queen,” Morgan said.

“Maybe it’s their way of reaching out, as the Americans say, to the royals and wanting some kind of end to this on-running feud,” he said.

It comes after the outspoken and unapologetic British TV host slammed Markle again, calling her a “downright liar” in an explosive interview with Stefanovic on Sunday’s 60 Minutes.

Morgan, 56, also lashed out at the “woke brigade” and “cancel culture,” which he said were destroying society and would put Australia on the same path as the United States if cancel culture were allowed to take hold.

In his ongoing feud with the Sussexes, the former ITV host of Good Morning Britain claimed Markle phoned his bosses at the network to complain about him, before he stormed off the set.

Morgan had used is TV show to debunk Markle’s claims during her blockbuster interview with Oprah Winfrey for CBS in March.

He disputed that Harry and Meghan tied the knot three days before their official ceremony at Windsor Castle in 2018.

“They couldn’t have got married three days before they said they did because that would make the Archbishop of Canterbury a criminal,” Morgan said. “There were a lot of things coming out of Meghan Markle’s mouth that I knew to be untrue.”

“I thought there were downright lies coming out of the interview and I saw my job to hold these two people to the same account I would hold a government minister. For doing that, within 36 hours I had to leave the job.”

“You’re not allowed to disbelieve a liar like Meghan Markle. I’m sorry to call her that but she tells lies … We’ve proven that,” he said.

In his 60 Minutes interview, Karl Stefanovic asked Morgan if he’s just an “angry old man.”

Morgan insisted he was defending freedom of speech.

“The origin of woke [culture] was well-intentioned. It was to have an awareness, to be awake to racial and social injustice. We can all sign up to that,” he said. “But it’s been hijacked by extremely illiberal people professing to be liberal, who’ve now become the modern day fascists.

“These people are marching around like they’re Kim Jong-un with a dash of Vladimir Putin. And to me, that will kill our societies.

“I’m not giving a license to vile racists - they should absolutely be removed from the either - but come on everybody take a chill pill.”

HARRY, MEGHAN LOSE PLACE ON ROYAL WEBSITE

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been demoted on the royal family’s website to make way for Prince Edward and his wife Sophie Wessex.

On the Royal. UK website’s ‘Members of the Royal Family’ tab, Harry and Meghan used to have prime position just below Prince William, Kate Middleton and Princess Anne.

They have now been pushed below Prince Edward and Sophie, who have been in the spotlight more recently after the death of Prince Philip.

Harry’s updated biography reads, “As announced in January, The Duke and Duchess have stepped back as senior members of The Royal Family. They are balancing their time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour their duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and their patronages. Frogmore Cottage in the UK remains their family home.”

Meghan’s bio adds, “The Duchess will continue to support a number of charitable causes and organisations which reflect the issues with which she has long been associated including the arts, access to education, support for women and animal welfare.”

It comes after Prince Edward joked about nephew Harry’s bombshell interview, quipping “Oprah who?”

When asked if they watched the bombshell special hosted by US talk show guru Oprah Winfrey, the Earl and Countess of Wessex chuckled.

Sophie joked “what interview?” while Edward added “Oprah who?”

And instead, Sophie, 56, focused on the royal family’s strengths, with the couple revealing they had a “lengthy chat” with Prince Harry after the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral.

Despite the drama, they insisted the couple are “still family no matter what”.

At the time, Buckingham Palace released a statement, saying: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.

“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”

However, the palace has remained silent as the couple have continued to give interviews, with Harry speaking on a podcast with celeb Dax Shepard and to Oprah Winfrey again in a new series focused on mental health.

Harry’s shocking comments on a new Apple+ series with Oprah Winfrey have left senior members of the Royal Family concerned about future comments as they are unable to respond to the claims.

In their candid interview with the Telegraph, Edward and Sophie drew comparisons between life in the UK and the US.

When quizzed over the fact the Archbishop of Canterbury hadn’t recognised Oprah and Meghan and Harry’s 2018, wedding, Sophie explained: “You know, if you’re not into chat shows, there’s no reason why you should know who she is. Certainly not in this country, anyway.”
