Prince Andrew will attend Prince Philip’s thanksgiving service next week, it has been confirmed.
The Duke of York is said to be determined to honour his father despite the potential for backlash and concerns his presence will dominate the event at Westminster Abbey.
It will be Prince Andrew’s first public appearance since he settled the sex assault case against him by his Australian-based accuser Virginia Roberts Giuffre.
Prince Andrew has vehemently denied all claims against him and the sum of money agreed between the two parties may never be released.
Courtiers believe the 62-year-old will disappear from public life after next week’s event, according to British media reports.
The Duke of York has been staying out of the spotlight since the Queen forced him to give up all his royal duties in the wake of the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.
He was spotted driving his Range Rover through Windsor on March 8.
Prince Andrew was not present at Westminster Abbey last week for the Commonwealth Service which was attended by senior royals including Charles, Camilla, William and Catherine.
It comes after reports that the Duke of York had quit the prestigious Naval and Military Club. He had been a member of the historical consortium since rising through the ranks of the Royal Navy.
