Sam Frost’s emotional anti-vaccination was met with an instant wave of backlash on Saturday – and for many, it was one word from Frost that proved the main sticking point.
In the now-deleted Instagram video, the former Bachelorette turned Home And Away star revealed that she has chosen not to get vaccinated against Covid, and pleaded for “compassion” and “empathy” for those who have made the same decision as her.
“I was really hesitant about doing a video or even speaking up about this sort of thing, but I feel like it’s getting to a point now in the world where there’s a lot of segregation,” said the Sydney-based star.
And it’s that word – segregation – was a step too far for many, given the term’s historical connotations (one definition from Webster’s dictionary: “the separation or isolation of a race, class, or ethnic group by enforced or voluntary residence in a restricted area, by barriers to social intercourse, by separate educational facilities, or by other discriminatory means”).
“Sam Frost is a privileged white woman who has worked through the pandemic. Watching her tearfully speak about ‘segregation’ because she chooses not to get vaccinated and being called ‘brave’ by her followers is taking me to a level of ‘what the f**k’ I didn’t know was possible,” tweeted comedian and presenter Em Rusciano yesterday.
Others agreed, calling Frost out for her use of the term to describe the more limited freedoms unvaccinated people will enjoy until NSW reopens more fully on December 1:
Hot tip: Sam Frost if you want fewer people to judge you & more people to empathise with you -- maybe, just maybe don't use the word 'segregation' 30 sec into your video. This isnât 1950s Alabama. You ain't Rosa Parks.

glad to see Sam Frost speaking up about segregation of white women in Australia! Glad somebody has finally said it.

Btw Sam Frost - itâs not segregation so I would suggest you change your terminology because that is so disrespectful to people who have been segregated because their race, religion, sexual orientation etc.

If Sam Frost wanted people to watch her 5 minute Instagram video then she shouldnât have mentioned âsegregationâ 30 seconds in

hi sam frost. i see you have looked up the definition of segregation. while youâre there, maybe you can click on any of the other links underneath discussing racial segregation and then come back to us comparing what you are choosing to do with what has been forced upon so many.

I donât know who needs to hear this (Sam Frost) but being asked not to enter certain places unvaxxed is not the same as segregation. But it is the exact same thing as smokers being asked not to smoke in certain places. It protects others from your poor health choices.

Frost did not reveal the specific reason why she had not gotten vaccinated in the video, which has since disappeared from Instagram along with her entire account.
“There are a lot of different reasons people aren’t getting vaccinated – and it might be because of their medical history, their concerns they might have, they might have family history, it might be religious reasons, whatever,” she said.
“I want to tell those people that feel like they’re getting separated from society – well, I’m not vaccinated, and there’s a reason why I’m not, I’ve spoken to my doctor and my psychologist about it, and I’m going to keep it private.”
The actress, who first found fame as the winner of The Bachelor in 2014 before going on to become The Bachelorette in 2015, went on to say that she had been made to feel like “less of a human” due to her unvaccinated status.
“It’s a really hard time to be in society right now, you feel like you are less of a human and you feel like people judge you, and you’re too scared to talk about your opinion or your feelings, and part of you wants to go, ‘Well, it’s none of your damn business why I’m not (vaccinated).’”
