‘Sister from another mister’: Katy Perry drops Kerr-Bloom bombshell

The Roar singer broke her silence on the unusual friendship with the Aussie ex-wife of future husband Orlando Bloom.

Katy Perry paid tribute to Miranda Kerr after celebrating her “sister from another mister” at the 20th anniversary of G’Day USA In Los Angeles.

The US singer posted a behind-the-scenes video on Monday showing the unlikely besties breaking the “ex-wife, new wife narrative” over their once and future husband, Orlando Bloom.

“I loved celebrating my fav Aussie Aussie Aussie (oi oi oi!) & sister from another mister @mirandakerr the other night @gdayusa Art’s Gala,” she said on Instagram.

“Congrats on the honour, I love our modern family,” she added.

“Also thank u for introducing me to celery juice I just thought they were those veg stick things I stir me Bloody Mary’s with”.

Perry shared a video of her speech honouring Kerr at the Gala, where she shared her differences with the Gunnedah girl’s shared taste in men.

“If any of you know about Miranda, she truly lives by this 80-20 rule: 80 per cent healthy and 20 per cent indulgent,” she said in the video.

“Let’s just say I’m more 20-80. For example, when she first introduced me to celery juice, I was like, you mean those things I stir with my Bloody Mary. Ok. Good for you.”.

The Roar singer presented Kerry with the Excellence in Arts Award, telling the crowd that many may “be confused” why she was sharing the spotlight with her fiancé’s former lover.

“That doesn’t play into the antiquated narrative of ex-wives and new wives,” she said, according to People

“And yes, it’s true, most of the media would like to see us mud wrestle, including [Miranda’s husband,] Evan [Spiegel], but we are here to lead by love because Miranda is love. And as a lot of you know, love comes in many family iterations.”

“I’m so grateful for our modern blended family. It’s like I gained another sister, one with whom I usually sidebar from the main family chat and agree with.”

Kerr addressed their friendship last year, telling Vogue Australia that co-parenting with Bloom and Perry is something she feels “really happy about”.

But this week’s G’Day USA Gala speech and follow-up Instagram post were among the first detailed comments Perry gave on their friendship and shared family.

Kerr received honours for excellence in the arts, alongside actor Sam Worthington in film and television and The Kid Laroi in music.

Singer Delta Goodrem delivered the headline performance in tribute to the late Olivia Newton-John, who was a fervent supporter of G’Day USA and attended in the past with John Travolta.

Kerr, who shares son Flynn with Bloom, told Vogue Australia last year that co-parenting with Bloom and Perry, who share daughter Daisy Dove, is something she feels “really happy about”.

The Victoria’s Secret Angel turned entrepreneur was honoured for her contribution to fashion and beauty, making history to be the first Australian to wear the infamous angel wings on the runway and later launching the skincare line KORA Organics.

Worthington, coming off the mega success of the blockbuster sequel Avatar: The Way of Water, was recognised for his long Hollywood career.

Charlton Howard, better known as The Kid Laroi, was honoured for the success of his Grammy-nominated track Stay, which he created with Justin Bieber and stayed on the top spot of Apple Music’s top 100 global songs chart for 51 consecutive days in 2021.

Other celebrities in attendance at the G’Day USA event included Crocodile Dundee star Paul Hogan, Director Philip Noyce, and actor Abbie Cornish, among dozens more.

They were joined by producer John Farrar, who wrote some of the biggest hits of Olivia Newton-John’s career, including her duet with Travolta, “You’re the One That I Want”.

The G’Day USA program first launched in 2003 to foster ties with the United States, leveraging Australian talent to promote the country’s arts, tourism and business.
