Meghan and Harry’s shock move to let the Queen meet their baby daughter Lilibet

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly offered to fly to the UK and introduce the Queen to her four-month-old great granddaughter and namesake Lilibet.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly offered to fly to the UK and introduce the Queen to her great granddaughter and namesake Lilibet.

It comes four months after the Duchess of Sussex gave birth to their daughter in Los Angeles.

If the shock meeting goes ahead it will be the first time that Markle has been to the UK since the couple defected to the US in 2020, in what is now infamously known as Megxit.

According to The Sun, a source said the Sussexes have offered to visit the Queen in the coming weeks.

Since leaving the UK, the couple spoke out about the royal family in an explosive interview with US television queen Oprah Winfrey.

The tell-all interview put further strain on the Sussexes’ relationship with the royal family, and this is expected to be tested further with the release of Prince Harry’s memoir next year.

But The Sun has reported that Harry has made “olive branch” calls to his family, with he and the Duchess of Sussex hoping to hold a christening for their daughter Lilibet, possibly at Windsor Castle.

Senior staff are apparently stunned by the request for a meeting, especially as they have revealed the Queen’s aides have been “lawyering up” in preparation for any new claims that may come out of Harry’s book.

“Harry and Meghan have made this offer but a lot of people are shocked by the sheer nerve of it,” a source said.

“They may genuinely want to see the Queen but it’s breathtaking given what they’ve put her through this year.

“Her Majesty’s staff have not responded so far. In fact there has also been discussion about Christmas — and whether an invitation should be sent to Harry and Meghan, after they spurned one last year.

“The Queen is still very fond of Harry, and would love to see Lilibet and her brother Archie.

“But courtiers are surprised by the move, especially from Meghan, after what has happened.”

Harry has returned to the UK twice this year, once for his grandfather Prince Philip’s funeral in April and the second time in July to unveil a statue to his mother, Princess Diana.

Buckingham Palace has not commented on the claims.
