KARL Stefanovic and Jasmine Yarbrough are reportedly engaged, after the couple were pictured with a group of friends with Jasmine flashing a sparkling ring on her finger.
The Daily Telegraph reports the high profile couple are engaged, according to a friend who confirmed the news.
“They are very happy and enjoying this special time together,” they friend said, adding that the proposal was “very new”.
A picture posted on Jasmine Yarbrough’s Instagram showed the couple at Sydney restaurant Otto with friends, prompting commenters to speculate it may have been a bridal party.
Carrie Parker wrote: “That’s one sparkler ! Congratulations ! Gorgeous ring!!” while plenty of other fans congratulated the couple on their “engagement”.
Stefanovic’s management had previously refused to confirm the news, amid speculation they had done an exclusive media deal on the story.
Earlier this week, rumours about their status reached fever pitch after Stefanovic posted a photo of the 34-year-old Mara and Mine designer sporting a massive diamond ring.
In the photo, Yarbrough — who is wearing the sparkler on her engagement finger — is clearly in a celebratory mood, holding a champagne glass.
Stefanovic made no mention of any engagement, instead pointing to Yarbrough’s 34th birthday.
“Happy birthday beauty @jasyarby”, he wrote accompanied by various balloon and heart emojis.
However, a number of the TV star’s fans zeroed in on the diamond ring.
“What an amazing rock! Close up please!!” one wrote.
Rumours have circulated that Stefanovic “got down on one knee” and proposed to Yarbrough during her recent birthday celebrations.
The party, which ended with police being called by irate neighbours due to loud music, was attended by celebrity friends including rugby league star Sam Burgess and his wife Phoebe, who shared a photo to her Instagram with a group of girlfriends.
Yarbrough’s sister Jade also took to social media, posting photos from the party, calling her sister by her nickname “Fizzel”.
Stefanovic and Yarbrough met on a Sydney party boat in December, 2016, just months after the Today host split from his wife of 21 years, Cassandra Thorburn.
Last July, Stefanovic sat down with Stellar magazine and spoke about the pressures of a very public breakup.
“I’ve been through some personal stuff that’s been difficult on everyone in my family,” he said.
“That has been the hardest aspect: the increased public interest, or coverage, makes it more intense to navigate through. But it isn’t a world event, it’s not a national event, it’s not a community event. I don’t know where to place it. It confuses the hell out of me.”
At the time, he told the magazine he and Yarbrough were “taking things really, really slowly”.
“I certainly did not expect to meet someone five months after I broke up with my wife. That was not planned, I did not know her before. I met her on a boat in Sydney,” he said.
While Stefanovic says they “have a really lovely relationship,” he was determined to not share anything publicly.
“I don’t think that’s fair on anyone involved. It was unexpected and lovely, but we’re going to try to keep a level of privacy to how we’re going and what we’re planning, especially considering I have three beautiful children who need to be taken into consideration,” he said.
Stefanovic and Thorburn have three children, daughter Ava, and sons Jackson and River.
In a new interview with Woman’s Day, Thorburn said it was her “second chance” to get the life she deserves and that she has “never felt more empowered”.
Stefanovic has also faced upheaval in his professional life after longtime Today co-host Lisa Wilkinson left the show amid a reported pay dispute over the disparity between her wages and his.
Georgie Gardner replaced Wilkinson at the desk after she announced she was taking on a new role at The Project on Network Ten.
