Hugh Sheridan set Rebel Wilson up with Ramona Agruma

The mystery friend who introduced Rebel Wilson to her girlfriend Ramona Agruma has revealed themselves, declaring they’re quite the matchmaker.

Packed to the Rafters star Hugh Sheridan has revealed they played matchmaker in Rebel Wilson’s surprise new relationship with Ramona Agruma.

Speaking to 2Day FM’s Hughesy, Ed and Erin this morning, Sheridan, 36, who is nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns, said they had been trying to set both Rebel and Ramona up with other people “for years” unsuccessfully.

“I think even Ramona and I almost gave it a shot at one point a couple of years ago,” Sheridan joked.

No stranger to guiding cupid’s arrow, the Five Bedrooms star admits they’ve helped some friends down the aisle in the past.

“I’m a bit of a matchmaker in my spare time, I like to set people up and I’ve got a very good success rate. A few marriages in there,” they boasted.

Sheridan said they’ve known both women ‘for years’ and had been trying to set them up with other people.

They explained that suddenly, they though maybe they’d been ‘looking in the wrong spot’ for Rebel.

“Rebel was a really hard one (to set up) and Ramona was too,” they explained.

“Ramona is really smart, she speaks lots of languages … and Rebel is very smart. I was in New York and I’d just split up with my ex and was feeling very sad and Rebel said, ‘I just can’t imagine how you feel because I’ve never been in love before,’ and I thought, gosh she’s a hard one to crack.

“But then I just had this thought that maybe I’m looking in the wrong spot. I think a woman who’s that successful needs a very strong man … But a woman with a woman who’s successful, maybe they’d just lift each other up … Then I thought of Ramona straight away.

“I said … Give me a minute … and I told Rebel later on that it’s a girl,” they said, adding that the actress was willing to give it a shot.

“They spoke for a week or so, and Rebel came back from Australia to meet her, and they’ve been together ever since! Another one on the ladder!

“I’m sort of their beard!” they joked.

When asked how serious they are, Sheridan said: “For Rebel to come out and say what she said, they are very serious together.”

Rebel Wilson has today come out as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community by introducing fans to her new girlfriend.

“I thought I was searching for a Disney Prince … but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess,” the Pitch Perfect actress captioned a selfie on Instagram Thursday with new flame Ramona Agruma.

In May, Wilson teased that she was “happily” in a relationship but did not reveal the identity of her partner.

“I am now happily in a relationship,” she said on Jordana Abraham and Jared Freid’s podcast U Up. “I met them at a friend’s set-up.”

Wilson, 42, added that she had been looking for love on dating apps, but she was ultimately introduced to her new significant other through a pal.

“I was on and off on the Raya app, but this was a friend set up,” she said, not mentioning Sheridan by name. “He had known both of us for at least five years and he thought we would hit it off — and then we did!”

The pair has been hiding in plain sight, as the Senior Year star actually took Agruma as her plus-one to the Vanity Fair Oscars party in March.

Ramona is a fashion designer and entrepreneur. She is the founder of LEMON VE LIMON, a sustainable clothing company.

She also stars as a brand ambassador for Bee Goddess Jewellery.
