Kate Middleton has shown a grittier side to her life as the Duchess of Cambridge through a series of images showing her undergoing military training.
Kate shared the images on the official Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Instagram and Twitter accounts alongside a touching message to the men and women of Britain’s armed forces.
Kitted out in full commando gear, Kate was put through her paces as she took part in Armed Forces Day on Saturday.
In the posts she wrote: “Today on Armed Forces Day, William and I would like to pay tribute to the brave men and women, past and present, serving in all of our armed forces, at sea, on land and in the air, here in the UK and around the world.
“Thank you for all you and your families’ sacrifice to keep us safe.”
Kate went on to add in her tribute post: “Last year, I was honoured to spend time with the @BritishArmy to see how they train serving personnel and new recruits.
“It was wonderful to see first-hand the many important and varied roles the military play day in, day out to protect us all, and I look forward to discovering more about the @RoyalNavy and @RoyalAirForceUK in due course.”
The images released on social media to celebrate Armed Forces Day show the Duchess during her visit to Pirbright Training Academy in November last year where she experienced first-hand the training that serving personnel and recruits undergo.
During the visit Kate spent time talking with members of the 101 Operational Sustainment Brigade at Abingdon Airfield in addition to taking part in some of the training exercises.
Wearing thick gloves, Kate helped repair machinery and donned a military helmet while behind the wheel of a military vehicle as she communicated with other members of the brigade.

While not a public holiday, people celebrate Armed Forces Day with events up and down the country on the last weekend in June.
Earlier in the week the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited the newly unveiled Windrush Monument at Waterloo Station.
Kate wowed onlookers in a crisp white pant suit designed by Alexander McQueen, who was commissioned to design her stunning wedding gown.
At the monument unveiling both Kate and William spoke to pioneers of the Windrush Generation and their families.
