DID his time as a coach on The Voice Kids inspire rocker Joel Madden to add to his own family with wife Nicole Richie?

FOR the past few months, rocker Joel Madden has spent hours with a bunch of adorable and talented youngsters as part of his coaching duties on The Voice Kids.

Queensland singer Alexa took out the top gong on last night’s grand final and won a $50,000 music and education scholarship.

Did Joel’s experience on the show inspire the American musician to add to his own family with wife Nicole Richie?

Together the superstar couple already have a six-year-old daughter, Harlow, and a four-year-old son, Sparrow. It seems two might do.

“I have enough kids,” Joel, 35, laughed. “I’m happy where I’m at.”

Family time in his household is often a creative affair. It’s hardly surprising given Joel and his twin brother Benji have sold millions of records with their band Good Charlotte, Nicole is an accomplished fashion designer and her father Lionel Richie is a legendary musician.

Joel said some of that wealth of talent seemed to have rubbed off on his kids.

“My kids are very creative. They’re really creative musically. They love all sorts of art. Music, art, anything creative. We definitely support creativity at home.”

As to whether either look set to follow in his footsteps, Joel said it’s too early to tell.

If they’re anything like he was, it could take some time for Harlow and Sparrow to find their musical bones. Joel was well into his teens before he began singing with Benji.

“I want my kids to be happy. Whatever makes them happy, I will support them.”

Joel has spent the past few years splitting his time between the family home in Los Angeles and filming commitments on The Voice, and this year its kids spin-off, in Sydney.

It’s a juggle but the heavily inked musician’s love of Australia means he’s happy to make it work.

“I feel local there and I love being there. I can’t complain about either side of my life — the Australian or American side.”
