The world’s leading film festival is underway in southern France, with celebrities taking to the red carpet to show off their glamorous gowns ahead of movie premieres.
Big names like Anne Hathaway, Julia Roberts and Alessandra Ambrosio walked the carpet on Thursday for the screening of Armageddon Time at the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
Hathaway, who stars in the American period drama, looked elegant in a Armani Privé floor-length white gown.

The coming-of-age drama was written and directed by James Gray and is set in 1980 Queens, New York, where he grew up.
Hathaway plays the protagonist’s mum.
Hollywood heavyweight Julia Roberts also made an appearance at the film’s premiere wearing a Louis Vuitton suit.
Roberts rocked two looks in one night, later presenting this year’s Chopard Trophy to actors Sheila Atim and Jack Lowden.
The trophy honours up-and-coming talent during the Cannes Film Festival.
Famous Brazilian-American model, actor and fashion designer Alessandra Ambrosio also wore white to the screening of Armageddon Time.
But Ambrosio’s look was much more dramatic than Hathaway’s.
She was dressed by French fashion designer Stephanie Rolland, who was actually raised in Cannes and Nice.
Fellow former Victoria’s Secret Angel Jasmine Tookes wore a beaded tulle long-sleeve crop top and matching wrap skirt by Zuhair Murad.
French model Cindy Bruna turned heads in a huge baby pink tiered floor-length gown by Giambattista Valli.
Green was a popular choice, worn by Belgian model Rose Bertram, German model Emma Todt and British singer Tallia Storm
Bertram wore a sheer dress by Hamda Al Fahim.
Todt wore Cybele Bertin and Storm wore Yanina Couture.
A day earlier celebrities had flocked to see the premiere of Top Gun: Maverick.
Star of the film Tom Cruise hit the carpet with his co-star Jennifer Connelly, who wore Louis Vuitton.
American actress Elle Fanning wore Armani Privé and Australian actress Katherine Langford wore Valentino.
Brazilian model Adriana Lima, a former Victoria’s Secret Angel, certainly stood out in Balmain, despite wearing black.
She posed with her exposed baby bump alongside her partner Andre Lemmers, a US film producer.
In contrast, Academy Award winning actress Viola Davis stepped out in a bright yellow Alexander McQueen gown alongside her husband Julius Tennon.
About 35,000 film professionals are expected at Cannes Film Festival from May 17 to 28.
Australian director Baz Luhrmann’s highly-anticipated Elvis Presley biopic, Elvis, will premiere during the festival.
Presley is played by American actor Austin Butler.
