THE countdown is on to this year’s Victoria’s Secret fashion show — one of the biggest and most extravagant shows of the year.

Love it for the glitz, or hate it for the body-image message it sends, one thing is for sure, no expense is spared when it comes to this lingerie extravaganza.

THE LO-DOWN ON THIS YEAR’S SHOW

The show’s being held in London for the first time and in addition to the bevvy of beauties that will appear on the catwalk, a few huge music stars will be doing their thing.

Taylor Swift is back to perform and will be joined by Ed Sheeran and Ariana Grande.

The parade will kick off Tuesday night London time (Wednesday morning locally), but you can catch the broadcast on Thursday December 11 at 7.30pm on Fox 8.

24 hours out from the big show in London’s Earl Court, the models today had their first full dress rehearsal. Alessandra Ambrosio also tweeted that she found time to hit up the gym for a last minute workout as well some meditation ... oh, and she ducked into the tanning booth, naturally.

Speaking of Ambrosio, she and Adriana Lima are the lucky ladies who’ll get to strut their stuff in the Dream Angels Fantasy Bra’s which are worth a staggering $2 million each.

The’ll be joined on the catwalk by models such as Behati Prinsloo, Candice Swanepoel, Lily Aldridge and Karlie Kloss. Our own Shanina Shaik will be strutting her stuff and waving the flag for Australia.

Two big faces who won’t be at the lace parade though are Kendall Jenner – sister of Kim Kardashian and new face of Estee Lauder – and British model Cara Delevingne who will reportedly walk the catwalk in Salzburg for Chanel’s Metiers d’Art show instead.

TRAVEL LIKE AN ANGEL

As the Victoria’s Secret Angels soared high toward the heavens (presumably from where they came) aboard their own VS branded private jet, a select few were invited to tag along (jealous much?). Reporting from the world’s most beautiful fuselage, a media representative from Fashionista confirmed it was better than you dreamt. Here’s what she saw.

Seating

Each seat came equipped with fleece Victoria’s Secret branded blankets and an in-flight comfort kit of eye masks and neck pillows. Unfortunately wings were not included.

In-flight entertainment

The Angels watched movies and snacked on nuts and chocolate (yes, really) before applying their travel-sized beauty products prior to landing. They spent the flight chatting with each other and generally creating the overall feel of a best friends road trip. “To be on a plane with all of the girls at once feels very surreal,” Doutzen Kroes told Fashionista.” I am sitting next to Elsa [Hosk] which is nice — we were watching the same movie and didn’t even know it!”

Meals

Mimosas were passed around upon boarding while trolleys served fresh fruit and pastries before take off. Snacks of gummy bears and chocolate were available throughout the flight for emergency cravings. We also caught a glimpse of the Angel Airways menu, which included a choice of egg white omelet, fresh strawberry crepes or vanilla, spice French toast for breakfast (Greek yoghurt optional) and garden salad and chicken for lunch.

Service

While the Angels had their own crew attending to them, it was Adriana Lima who took over the duties of the customer service officer and announced their descent into London.

Security

The Angels spent most of the flight in their own first class section guarded by VS security guards (dressed in suits with pink ties no less) and high security levels continued on the ground. Upon disembarkation the models spent over an hour waiting to clear customs. It’s nice to know even angels have to come back down to earth once in a while.

And there you have it. While most of us like to end a long-haul with a shower and a nap the Angels ended theirs with late night facials, spray tans and workouts. We wish we could report otherwise, but the show must go on for these heavenly creatures.

IT COSTS HOW MUCH FOR A TICKET?

And if you were hoping to pop along to the show this year, we hate to break it to you but you won’t get your bum on a seat for less than US$14,000 a ticket.

If your name’s not Kanye, Kim K or Beyonce you’re going to struggle getting in the door, but if you’ve got cash to splash a handful of tickets are auctioned off for charity and available through private entertainment groups each year.

Auction sites Charity Dreams and Hollywood Charity Auction each auctioned off two tickets to the 2013 show and after party last year, stating that “Victoria’s Secret requires a starting minimum bid of US$25,000 for a pair of tickets”.

But the $25k plus price tag does “not include travel or accommodation” so you’re going to have to stump up for that on top.

Bespoke event management and luxury concierge company, Pure Entertainment Group, also offered a very limited number of tickets last year, at a cost of US$14,000 per ticket, with an additional estimated commission of $1000-2500.

“It’s important to note that this is one of the most exclusive social events of the year as it attracts celebrities and VIP guests from all around the world,” the company states. Wow.

VICTORIA’S SECRET BY THE NUMBERS:

The Victoria’s Secret fashion show has become the Super Bowl of all fashion shows since it started 18 years ago.

There are 27 models from 14 countries walking in the show this year, five of them are mothers.

The angels range in age from 18 to 33.

While the budget for the first show in 1995 was reported to be just $120,000, it is now 100 times that at $12 million last year.

One of the highlights of the show is the Fantasy Bra, but this year for the first time, there will be two, each worth $2 million. Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio will wear the diamond encrusted brassieres in 2014, but the sky high cost is no where near the $15 million bra worn by Gisele Bündchen in 2000.

London based valuation and strategy agency Brand Finance has valued the Victoria’s Secret brand at $3.9bn (£2.5bn)

The brand’s official beautitian Jimmy Coco says he uses up to three coats of tan on each model, totalling 40 cans and over 3.5 litres of the stuff for a single show. When asked why the models require so much lotion, he told the UK Daily Telegraph: “Angels have the most beautiful long legs, which require lots of tanning liquid.”

9.7 million people in the US alone watched the one-hour broadcast of the show last year.
