AUSTRALIAN model Lara Bingle has lashed out against mainstream media for mocking her decision to name her son “Rocket Zot”.
Since confirming their son’s name is Rocket Zot, the couple have become embroiled in a social media storm of the usual disbelief from one side, and support from the other.
Bingle was particularly incensed by an article in The Daily Telegraph, which analysed Bingle and husband Sam Worthington’s choices when naming their first child.
“Certainly “Rocket” — like Jett and Pilot and Justice and Kruz and Jax and Bronx and Roc and Kace and Gunner — is striving for coolness. But I think it’s reaching too hard,” wrote Annette Sharp.
“But what does one make of “Zot” — the child’s rumoured middle name?
“Zot, online urban dictionaries tell us, means to “zap, destroy, kill” and, in Ontario, Canada, is a term used to define a spitball thrown at a ceiling.
“Zot is a travesty — a mere verbal scribbling. It’s up there with Jermajesty Jackson, Audio Clayton and Tu Morrow in a category of cruel and unusual punishments.”
It appears that Bingle took particular offence to this line, posting on social media to express her displeasure.
She was also verbose on Twitter, repeating her anger in a series of Tweets:
This quote taken from a balderdash article in The Daily Telegraph Australia, April 4, 2015 - is very embarrassing. My sons middle name IS

Many of the model’s fans have already come to her defence, saying she did not need to “explain” herself and her choices.
@MsLaraBingle you don't need to explain yourself, it means something to you. @InSharpRelief shouldn't judge, nor should anyone.

@MsLaraBingle as a person whose name is Brando & whose middle name is Goulding (nanna's maiden name) I can say individual names are awesome.

Bingle’s public outburst comes as a surprise following months of silence from the couple, who chose to remain very private during the length of Bingle’s pregnancy.
Neither Worthington nor Bingle has made an official announcement regarding their baby, birth or pregnancy, even after rumours surfaced in July last year.
Mid-last year, Magazine Woman’s Day pointed out that Bingle must be pregnant, as she “was spotted in a series of loose-fitting outfits and appearing selfconscious about her tummy”.
But the model seems to have broken her silence, offering up new pictures of herself after leaving the hospital, snapped while swimming in the water.
