AACTA Awards 2015 live coverage: Red carpet highlights and winners

FROM what it’s like to film a sex scene to what they thought about Prince Philip’s knighthood ... Australia’s biggest film and TV stars opened up on the AACTA’s red carpet.

'Nervous' Rose Byrne on the AACTAS red carpet

SOME of our biggest stars were in a sharing mood when they walked the red carpet at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) awards in Sydney.

Hosts Cate Blanchett and Deborah Mailman had little time to talk after posing for photos as they rushed inside to prepare for the event.

But other celebrities were more than happy to dish the dirt on everything from what it’s really like to film a sex scene to their thoughts on Prince Philip’s knighthood.

RED CARPET HIGHLIGHTS

Here are some of our favourite quotes from the red carpet:

Damian Walshe-Howling on filming nude scenes: It’s sort of cool because you get to feel like you’re doing B-grade porn in a very high quality show … You wear what’s called a ‘c**k sock’. It’s the end of a lady’s stocking and it usually has a little bit of elastic around it and it ties up around the whole tackle and sort of ties up in a neat bow in your pubic hair.

Rove on the hardest thing about being a dad: The hardest thing is not hurting the child. But, their bones are pretty rubbery and when they’re born their skull isn’t fully formed anyway so you’ve got a little bit of wriggle room.

John Jarratt on people freaking out when they see him: The best freak out was at the Melbourne premiere of the first Wolf Creek and this girl was sitting in front of me totally sh*tting herself and she was covering her face and she couldn’t look at the screen anymore. So she turned away and looked behind her and looked straight at me and went purple!

Margaret Pomeranz on who will win the Oscar for Best Picture: It’s got to be either The Grand Budapest Hotel or Birdman. I think they’re both extraordinary, brave, wonderful films.

Josh Thomas on Prince Philip’s knighthood: Obviously it’s whack. But people are acting surprised that Tony Abbott did something whack and it’s like, we had an election, he was on TV every day, we know he’s whack! We did it. You voted for him! Bow down to Prince Philip, that’s the price.

Brooke Satchwell on her memories of being a Neighbours cast member: I didn’t know up from down when I first walked onto that set in Ramsay street and I remember I stopped off at the bathroom at the Nunawading studios and saw Granny Helen’s cane hanging on the back of the door and rang my mum and went, ‘Oh my god I’m in Neighbours!’

Lachy Hulme on the most challenging role he’s ever taken on: Probably Todd Russell in (2012 TV movie) Beaconsfield I would say, because he’s a very reticent man. He’s from a small town in Tasmania, he was sort of thrust into the global limelight because rocks f***ing fell on him. Getting to know Todd — because I moved in with him for a while — Todd was very, very difficult to play.
